Sherman Turrets

Post by 75th Ranger » Thu Mar 03, 2005 7:05 pm

guys,
I was wondering if any of you have tried to switch turrets between Sherman tanks versions...espeically from the BBI tank to the 21st tank...
I was thinking of t he concept because i already have both tank types but i wanted to make variants and i thought i clever idea would be to replace turrets between tanks to make them look slightly different.
what do you guys think?
keep me posted,
HOOAH!

Don't know if it is possible to do the swap but it wouldn't be historically accurate. The 21st Century turret is an early 75 mm turret with the low rear bustle. The BBI is the later 75mm turret with a higher rear bustle designed to clear the larger driver and co drivers hatches on the 47 degree hull. Also the 105mm was never mounted on the early M4 hull Sherman.

The turrets for these tanks do not attach to the hulls the same. You would have to seriously customize one or the other in order to get them to work together....putting the accuracy issue aside.

That would be cool if it worked.

I personally dont mind if the tanks were historically inaccurate because I would like to play with my toys if I have the time one day and variation and army building are my main focuses. I have cobra troopers driving my tigers and they will face off against BBI Abrams tanks and Star Wars At-Ats.
