Nightfighter 109 at BCA
Nightfighter 109 at BCA
Hey guys - get your nightfighter at Bad Cat while you can. Beats 80 bucks on ebay....
Looks like he went a bought a bunch at WM to me...hence the 'not mint boxes' disclaimer. I'm surprised these haven't been made available to retailers other than WM yet. Most items these days seem to be the opposite....they go to online retailers first and then, eventually, WM.
BTW if any of you have decals from buying other 109's the ones that are just white outlines of swastikas are perfect for this plane..

yup
He probably did get them at retail. I don't expect these to show up at small retailers at all - didn't we get the story that ToyFed got all the non-WM planes of this scheme?
Not everything that hits WM goes to small retailers - see the BoB M4.

Yeah that's nothing new. How about the first 190s to hit the shelves of WM in CA just to be swiped up by some white van guys.......vmf214 wrote:Funny thing is BCA may have found some at WM to sell on their site and maybe an ebay seller cleaned BCA out to jack up on ebay!![]()

The bought at Wal Mart theory is the most logical explanation as BCA had done it in the past. The desert Bradley and S1 "Red 3" FW-190 were a couple of examples.
The 109 nightfighters are out there in greater distribution than perhaps most would think. I saw at least 2 each at two different Wal Marts in the Fresno area in January. There were still some at one store in February.
They're also on ebay - one going for around $20 the last I saw.

Forgive me because this is a little off topic here, but I feel I must make mention of E-bay opportunists.
Some of these hard to find items are really sold just to pad the pockets of a few people who snag up collectables. I just saw an E-bay sale of a Dragon "Wittman" Tiger, and the owner has the gall to say 1 of 60 with a photo of the giant stack of them in his home. Starting price was +/- $100!
I know that the county I love is based on capitalism, and this E-bay supply and demand is our financil system at it's best, but I refuse to pad these people's wallets. I hope this guy gets stuck with all of these Tigers and rues the day he paid retail for them. I know my small personal protest will not make one whit's difference, but I will stand firm anyway. Also, my wife would kill me!

agreed
I'm all for capitalism, making money on ebay and supporting the habit, but I have to agree that BSing about a product to take advantage of the uninformed is not cool. This is especially true on ebay where there is really no stopping someone from saying anything in their listing.
There is one seller who has been selling "rare" German halftrack drivers "only available with the halftrack" which is just garbage. The same guy can be found packed in with the fountain at a fraction of the price. That's just lying, not puffing, and is a detriment to the hobby, imo.

I buy planes and resell them all the time on ebay. I sold several 109 nightfighters last week for $75 each. Am I gougeing? I don't think so. I had a "buy it now" price of $75 while the last few to go out of auction went for over $100. I try to make enough to make it worth my while, but I don't feel like I gouge people. I paid about $44 each for the planes (tax incl), go to the local shoe carnvival and dumpster dive for boxes, pay evilbay about $5 in listing fees, so you figure I'm making $25 each on planes (I usually don't make that much on them). The extra money allows me to buy planes for myself (and justify it to my wife while we are living paycheck to paycheck with kid #2 due first week of April) and I get people planes cheaper than online stores and I hand pick mine so they don't have to worry about getting a crappy paint job. When I found Stuka's on closeout for $20, I got $30-40 each for them. I often wonder if it's worth my while to do it, but I travel a lot for work and like to see what kind of deals I can find. I have FW190's listed now at $33-36 each. Better prices than online dealers and as already mentioned, I pass up planes that are beat up or have crappy paint (and more planes now have crappy paint than have good paint). I'm not evil or trying to corner the market, I'm just trying to keep my own collection going without spending grocery money on it.

I have been known to put planes ahead of groceries on several occasions!
It's all just part of the fun! Last weekend my wife suggested I look into renting a storage unit that I could store and display all my planes! Then she said I could go hang out there like some sort of club house? I returned fire with the the suggestion that she take a look at weeding out all the old clothes and shoes that never see the light of day more than once every 2 years! We called a cease fire and right now we are in the middle of peace talks!
Gotta love foreign policy!

So how does that work? Does that make Rob from BCA an "E-bay opportunists"?
I think as long as you fairly represent the product you are selling, and allow the buyers to set the price (i.e. - auction, and not highly inflated "buy it now"), I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
