With the Bad Cat Breed

OKay- so i just finished reading with teh old breed by e.b. sledge for the sixth time.

So i just had to order a case of the marines form bad cat... and a bbi sherman (which i'll do a custom on).

So here is the questio: for those of you that have the maines... what is the best methode forgetting them to have better articulation? is it just to cut along the button line? is there any down side to this?

also: what did you use for replacement hands on the figures with goofy hands that can't hold a rifle etc.?

also: how study is the M1 Carbine? is it flimsy? breaks easy? yes or no?

also: when do the submissions for the 21st century marine contest have to be in?

I can answer a few of those questions:

To provide better articulation, you can cut along the shirt button seam and kind of seperate the shirt tunic from the torso piece. It can be done with a pocket knife. Soaking the figure for a minute or two in hot water softens up the shirt and makes it easy to position the figure. You can see the results here:

I don't have the figure with the M-1 Carbine, but the other weapons are sturdy and don't break easily.

I haven't tried replacing hands, though I bought a couple of other figures and switched heads.

It says on the 21c Marines Contest site that the winners will be chosen at the end of February - so, NOW!!

The carbine is as sturdy as the rest of the weapons. I wish there were more carbines in the X-D line. As for hands, it helps to have a healthy stock of extra arms. The first series figures work the best for hand replacements. Some even match the skin tone on the marines. I personally only cut the jackets up the sides and not in the center although I like the way it looks up the center. Experiment, and have fun. I even made one of my figures into a code-talker.

"With the Old Breed" is one hell of a good book. What those guys went through was insane!
