When I was in school for business, WM was a model company for certain things on efficiency, but there were also in-depth discussions on their "less than honest" business tactics that ranged from little crap like with the planes here, and all the way to federal violations, etc.

It's a company I patronize only because I'm essentially forced to. Otherwise I shop elsewhere whenever possible.

WM's just one of many that'll screwjob you any way possible... They just make it an art form compared to others is all.

I have gotten a few deals from wal-mart. Me 109s and P-51s for $15 each and the deal of deals 1/6 Stuart tanks for $37.50. I picked up 3 of each on the planes and 3 as well on the Stuarts.
I am not sure if this balances out the hundreds if not thousands of dollars I have spent on the full retail prices I have paid for other XDs.

I am stocking a local WM here in Dallas and currently they have several 1/18 Russian Migs, Old Crows and BBDs marked down to $35.00 clearance. I am hoping for the next drop on the price since they have so many and I dont think they will move at that price.

Ive seen the same thing all over - most of the WM thought had them on clearance for $39.80 - or pennies off - then $35.00 for about a week and now back to full price.

There has got be an consumer protection law on stores that do a "bait and switch" in pricing.
My WM is doing the same thing. They have the sad looking boxes thrown next to the mangled "discounted" stuff and have it priced at 39.00 bucks.
BIG WHOOP- a whole 88. cents! :P

What do they think we are stupid morons??

One Wal Mart in my area just put out an assortment of 8 P-51s, 2 Huff F-86s, 5 Chinese Migs, and 3 F-104s, all for the nice price of $39.84; all after I thought they'd gone through this assortment earlier this summer... The other Wal Mart in my area that got the same assortment much earlier has sold most of theirs. I thought these planes were supposed to be on the way out, but I guess it will be a while yet

Still, I will take consolation in the fact that my area did get in most of the 1:18 repaints and all of the new 32x products this summer - which is a far cry from last year

I've only seen one WM that actually had real clearance prices ($25) on their stock of planes in Northern, CA. There is one other WM which I am keeping a watch on since they have a ton of Huff's and BBD's. They've had them for quite some time and I'm hoping that they clearance them out soon. Hopefully not at a discount of a few cents as some of you other folks are experiencing.

I'm guessing that its more of a way to trick the computer so they can queue something up on a list of things that need to be moved to clearance. Getting them out of the way so they can get the shelf reset done.

Then either sell them (if they get mark down approval) or move them back into a vacant slot after the reset is finished.

Seems like someone posted that a while back.

New planes at my local WM!!! A whole shipment of 1/18 airplanes that have never been there before!

Of course, all that means is that they finally got the PH P-40's and Old Crow Mustang in (which have already come and gone from every other WM around here). Oh, and 4 more Huffs to go with the 6 that have already been sitting there not selling. At least now they are following truth in advertising: they are no longer on clearance for $38.84. Oh well. At least it is evidence that 1/18 at WM isn't dead.

Same thing happened at a store near me  Funny thing is that they had all the same planes earlier this summer, save no PH P-40s.

what I found

Post by Fitzystigertank » Sun Sep 16, 2007 1:13 pm

Today in 3 WM that i visited the first one had series 2 U.S tanker and werhmacht figures. the second WM i visited had BBD and Flying undertaker P51's. They also had F86 Mitch's squitch which i picked up.
The 3rd walmart had F86 Huff, same p51's as the last WM and had Mig 15.
I grabbed the one Mig that i could find and the pilot and the canopy were loose in the box. so i went up to CS and asked if they had anymore left. she told me that they had 19 Mig's. so they called in the toy manager and he brought me over to where they should have been. we walked around till i noticed in the corner of my eye more planes. it's amazing how trained your eye gets when you have collected alot of planes. they had 2 more migs. so i traded the loose one for a new one. the boxes were a lil beat up but nothing inside was damaged. anyone know why the Mig was called "Fagot"?? i tried to find info on it and can't seem to come up with anything.

Now my review of these planes. Awesome!!! Mitch's Squitch is a nice and easy to look at then the Huff. The only thing that broke on Mitch was the front landing wheel wouldn't turn and the lil easy to break piece that holds the wheel cover on snapped off so the door now doesn't close with the wheel. so i removed it and now my front landing gear is open to the elements. I don't get why they made it this way?? I don't really care for the Huff. the dragon is to goofey.
As for the Mig I believe i got the Korean one with the all red nose. easy to put together. the drop down gun carriage is pretty cool too. i deff recommend these to anyone that doesn't have them. I said to myself that I would never get the Korean Jets because I only collect WII planes. well after being to a air show with a F86 that changed my mind pretty quickly. well i'm off to play with my new jets.

Fagot was the Nato reporting name for the Mig 15. Russian fighters were given a reporting name starting with the letter 'F'. The name was intended to be unflattering, not descriptive, but in the case of the Mig 15 it was a bit of both. Fagot is slang for a cigarette and the Mig 15 had a tendancy to produce a fair bit of smoke.

'B' was used for russian bombers (eg Bear, Backfire), 'C' for transports, 'H' for helicopters etc.

WM is getting more insane by the minute.
I am shopping (okay, pushing my sleeping son in a cart around and around the store while my wife and daughter shop) in the WM. I go to toys, lawn & garden and a middle aisle by cosmeitics to find "clearance" toys.
I think I have found all of WM's hidding places for 21st Century planes.
I am looking for the wife and daughter after the first hour goes by and come upon another treasure trove of "clearance" toys by the food section.
They had F-86 Huffs and BBD P-51s all marked "39.88" - NO clearance price for me. It would be nice to find these planes somewhere near TOYS!
Instead WM thinks it is nice for us to take our valuable time inspecting every nook and cranny for our XD planes. BY GOD, it's unamerican!

"clearance" actually means that the price has been reduced by 1 or 2 cents to meet their criteria of clearance.

Found some clearanced planes today at the Pflugerville WM. They had BBD, Huffs, and Squitch's as well as F-104's all for 25$, I picked up 5 planes for backup and got the other PH P-40 that I didn't have. I guess some stores are doing pre christmas clearance. I hope it doesn't mean no more 1:18 at WM.

the usual gaggle of 1/18th AC stragglers are being marked to 25.00 around here, also. The cheaper they get, the more likely they are to find a little extra room downstairs- absolutely no room at full retail....as long as the price is right, the repaints aren't so ridiculous.
