grunt1 wrote: As for the corporate vs local manager. It's probably both. If I recall correctly the managers have a pool of dollars they can use to clearance items each month depending on how good their individual store toy sales were. Plus I imagine that if corporate was trying to flush the system, they can aim the clearance cannon at anything they want and clear it country wide.
I had a really good conversation with a long time WM employee in a IN WM. She told me that management had the "budget" to clearance items (guess non-movers or shelf clogs). This was slightly after Christmas, maybe Feb. of last year. Dear lady was in Lay-a-way.(now Site-to-Home: don't get me started on that!)
So, when I spoke to these WM folk yesterday, I was kinda confused, when the manager yesterday said,"Only Corporate is able to push a button to load the discount price into my system."
If Corporate is so all mighty seeing - why can't I get some stinkin' *&^**# figures at my local WM? (see RANDOM DISTRIBUTION process used by WM spoken about in many of the post here)

I have been re-reading "The Book" and laughing out loud in my office.
(I can only imagine the looks of my fellow slaves...)
Everyone that contributed to the book should get a "rare" XD item or at least a pat on the back. But Stuka, your took all our random quotes and put them into one "book". You should get 2 "rare" XD items or 2 pats on the back. Really, thanks for doing it. It makes it much easier to read. Excellent!
Here is one quote that just had me rolling on the floor and I should of read this before my post above:
Chapter 2
(3)The unenlightened ones shall believe that clearance prices are determined by age and lifespan upon the sacred shelves. Lo, that they may understand the wisdom of our ways! (4)What items will be clearanced shall be set forth by the motion of the wind upon the seas, the waves upon the sand, and the dustbunnies beneath the registers. (5)It shall not be with regard to age, nor quantity on hand, nor condition of package, but wisdom far more ancient and obscure that only the most enlightened ones can understand, and it is they who shall pass down their wisdom through the computers and the scanners. - Walton II, 2:3-5 (Fierodude)

Just got back from a roadtrip to Harrisonburg, VA and stopped at the WM in Rockingham county near Dayton on route 42. They had seven TBF Avengers marked down to $25 ea. Two Chinese Migs for $39.84 ea. Four Canadian Starfighters and three Busch Sarfighters at full price! And a surprise to me that they still had one FW-109D-9 Red 3 at $39.84 according to an associate because it did not come up on a scanner!

I have noticed most of the Walmarts in this area don't have the 1/18th XD figures since the redo. They have the 1/32 planes and the 144th planes but not much else. There isn't even a space or peg for the figures.

Grockwood, I'm seeing the same thing, there are 5 walmarts in my AO. No XD figures or XD aircraft. Some locations have a few 1:32 planes and most have the 1:144th planes and tanks.
Maybe something will show up by or after Christmas..........................

For me and the nearest WM I hit often, they moved ALL the shelfwarming planes (jets and mustangs) to a back-wall endcap near the lawn/garden entrance. It's a mile away from the toy department, and clearly a rotating endcap with no real designated product for it. All full price, so none of the planes are moving and now they're not even really visible to most... Saw one had been ripped open and damaged too.
Otherwise our XD area is figures and a number of 1:32 items lingering about... Hoping for some more space for XD soon.

I noticed the same thing at 2 of my local WM's.All the 1:18 jets and planes were pushed to an end cap near the lawn and garden supplies. They were set up to face the back wall (can't imagine why they won't sell)

The Mustangs were on clearance..marked down to $37 from the original price of $39

Love those rollbacks, huh?

I truly hate Wal-Mart most of the time...
We've had various Sw product in the clearance aisle for a whopping $.02 discount. With the money saved there, I could get that heart transplant I've been needing.

Don't feel bad. They have finally moved all the Huffs to the clearance section, aka the lawn and garden annex, and marked them with a clearance price of $39.84. I'll take two for that kind of savings!

They do that just so they don't have to mark them down and still make money ,.. in turn , making the customer think they are still getting "a deal". ...
...... but we as collectors , are too smart for their tricks.

Found a George AFB F-104 on clearance for $15 in Auburn NY today. The only one of the F-104 paints I didn't have. Such a deal!

The WM in Medina, Ohio had a couple of US Tankers for $4 on a Clearance rack. The aisle where they used to be has NO space or tag for ANY XD figures.
The WM in Strongsville has 2 J-pegs of US Tankers at regular price. Looks like the local WM's will just make room if and when any figures come in.

here's a new take on the old bait and switch, found a WM today that had PH P-40s and Migs on an endcap with clearance price of $38, and beside that "Regularly $49.98"
how's that for WM honesty?
