A Question about the Matchbox Collectables F-86

Post by tmanthegreat » Fri Jan 14, 2005 9:00 pm

Call me a little slow, but I've been hearing for a while that the first series Matchbox Collectables F-86 is John Glenn's plane. This would seem to be a correct assesment as its markings and "Mig Mad Marine" noseart are perfectly accurate - see link:

However, why then, does the Matchbox version make no note of this famous aviator having flown the plane, and why does it say "Pilot Mike Keenum" on the starboard side of the cockpit? See the links:

Does anyone know anything more about this aircraft? Thanks for your help!

Hmm, interesting. I just noticed that. It's possible that they (for some reason) couldn't get the name of the pilot and just used the standard name. Maybe the 'John Glenn' name was not given permission to be released.
