New Corgi 1:32 Hawker Hurricane

Post by donnieboy » Thu Apr 28, 2005 7:46 pm

Ding Ding Ding! Stop the Presses!
Mark of OnMark Aviation (www.Onmarkint.com) has posted the Corgi releases for second half of '05. Among the usual repaints and retreads (sheesh!) is a new Hawker Hurricane in 1:32 scale. There will be three variants; two Mark Is and one Mark II (the former have .30 cal machine guns, the latter 20mm cannon). They look really nice. Also coming: more paint schemes for the 1:32 P-51 and Bf-109G. Message to all diecast model makers; MORE TYPES OF PLANES AND FEWER PAINT SCHEMES ALREADY!
GOT IT? :x

A manufacturer has to get all it can out of existing molds which means more variants of that particular plane.. Good in some ways, bad in others..

Have you all seen the Corgi Factory Tour in the Corgi Heritage Centre Newsletter? It's quite fascinating. Here's a download link, just open it using MS Word. Good stuff!

Yeah, those upcoming Corgi 1:32 Hawker Hurricanes look sweet from the photos!
I wish I had the space to store the huge boxes that the diecast models will arrive in (eventhough the cardboard & foam packaging the Corgi provides with the airplane is very well done too).

New Corgi 1:32 Hawker Hurricane

Hworth18: I know it's expensive to produce the tooling pattern for a new model (I guess about $100,000 per model), and that these guys have to make their money back. It just gets depressing when so much new stuff is coming out in 1:72 scale (several new players lately), but so little comes out in 1:48 and 1:32. I am 57 years old. At the rate things are coming out in the larger scales, my wife will be putting the new models on my grave! :? [/i]

From the numbers I have heard, it's about $25,000 for the molds.. But I would imagine that figure depends on the size of the mold and the complexity of it's parts..
There is more stuff coming out in 1/48 and 1/32 this year.. It will just take a little more time because these are two scales lightly touched on before that are coming into popularity.. I would expect to see more coming soon as 21st is coming out with a 1/32 Fw-190, P-47, P-40, repaints of the 262 and others, not including the new 1/32 King Tiger and Jagdtiger.. Armour/Franklin Mint makes just about any plane you could want, but the quality isn't always that great.. Eagles Int'l may produce a second plane this year with a Razorback P-47 and Fw-190D9 or "other" possibly in the works..
So My friend, I wouldn't let the missus bury you yet.. Atleast not for another year or so..

Hworth18: Thanks for the heads up on new 1:32 and 1:48 stuff to come-you're a ray of light in the gathering gloom!
Mark at Onmark mentioned a new P-47 from Eagles Intl., but I hadn't heard about a FW-190D. Hot Damn! Guess I'll watch my cholesterol after all! :)
