Still holding strong. Just giving out cool facts as to why the A-10 is such a cool aircraft and why we should have one in 1/18 scale.

Hey don't mess with Birdog. My protoge' is almost single handedly keeping this thread alive, I ran out of things to say weeks ago...oh...ahh umm err hunger has weakened my resolve so much I no longer have the strength to to type...thats it yea.

Just keeping the momentum going.......we have to keep showing our desire for the A-10 to be done in 1/18 scale.

Each day I hear this tune:

A 1/18 scale A-10 will come out tommorrow, so I'm gonna hang on through the sorrow, till it comes......tommorrow....tommorrow....I'll see it tommorrow....it's only a day away......

I say "Go for it"! The F-4 is one of my favorites as well. I lived close to the McDonnell Douglas (NOT BOEING!!!) Plant in Saint Louis. I must have watched the first couple thousand roll off the assembly line as well as the F-15.

we have a summer house on maryland/virgina coast
maryland National Guard has A-10s
so sometimes when we are there we get a free unairshow as they practice.
also have place at Va beach and see Langley. NAS Oceana, and NAS Norfolk flying.BUT no A-10s there.
just F-15s, F-18s,F-14s and now F-22s and the like.

Anything helps. Though I'd rather see an A-10 done first and I'd buy more of them, the F-4 is right behind it on my list......c'mon just give us both.....

I feel the same, give me an A-10 first then an F-4, then maybe a Mig or a French design.

nothing against the French but i think it will be a long time before we see any of their equipment.
i would like to see a Mirage lll but i don't see them doing it because of sellability. only us airplane freaks on this board would buy it. little johnny at Walmart wouldn't have a clue what it was. plus soccer moms don't want jr to play with military toys, let alone let little johnny think that the French are anything but lovers. like her romance novel tells her.i was in a walmart and saw a little boy wanting a 21st 1/6 RC Hummer, and his soccer type mom having a fit about War toys! i wanted to ask her if she was going to buy him a Barbie doll? but stayed quiet, picked up my 1/18 RC Panzer and checked out instead.

Hog Fact:

The A-10 is afforded great protection in its fuel system. The fuel tanks on the A-10 are protected by a rigid, reinforced fire-retardant foam, with a layer of reticulated flexible foam inside to minimize spillage of fuel, prevent airlow through a holed tank, and to lessen the chance of fire. When tested, over 300 rounds of high-explosive incendiary (HEI) ammunition were fired into a set of test tanks and failed to cause explosion.

Hog Fact:

The A-10 has been considered for fire fighting applications in the civilian market. This variant would have been called the "Firehog" and would drop fire retardant. It's ability to operate from short makeshift fields made it ideal for the job. When the Air Force decided to continue the A-10's service in the early 90s, the plans were put on hold.

Hog Fact:

The A-10's nickname 'Warthog' stems from a line of Repulblic aircraft that have been deemed as 'Hogs'. Republic's first jet fighter, the F-84, was christened with the name the "Groundhog" for its not so great take off performance. When the F-84F appeared with it's swept-wing, it became the "Superhog". Later when Republic produced the F-105 Thunderchief, it was nicknamed the "Ultrahog". During a review of the A-10 at the Tactical Air Warfare Center (TAWC), Major Michael G. Major proposed a name for the new Republic aircraft. He had taken into full account the general configuration, multitude of exterior bumps, and the Republic line of previous aircraft. The name he proposed: "WARTHOG" The name was eventually shortned by crews to "Hog".

On May 10, 1972, the first YA-10 makes its first flight at Edwards AFB.

On January 18, 1973, Fairchild-Republic's YA-10 is declared the winner of the A-X competition over Northrop's YA-9.
