whoops, wrong thread

If 21st has anyone with a working brain, they'll jump on doing a B-17 in 1:32 scale. You'd have people who haven't given the 1:32 line a second look lining up to get one that was well-made. And then of course they'll have to have some P-51 escorts, and some Luftwaffe attackers, and so on.....MG-42 wrote:YESSSS ! ....My long awaited B-17 "Flying Fortress" ....perhaps in the works now,... as we speak ! 8)
M7 Priest...
Very HAPPY to see an M7 Howitzer Motor Carriage is coming in 1/32nd scale. Does 21C have a shipping date on these yet? How about any dates on the US mortar crew?
Thanks.
Thanks.

New 32x Vehicles
I'd love to see 21st do a 32x M8 Scott - the 75mm Assault gun (HMC) on the M5 Stuart chassis - all they need is a new turret - or at least that'd be close enough for a non-rivet counting wargamer like me. Cary
Cary
M8 details
1- The name "Scott" for an M8 seems to come from a British book or a website, I never heard it before a few years ago. In WW2 the M8 didn't have a nickname that I've ever heard of.
2- The entire glacis plate is different from the M5 light tank. The larger turret required that the drivers' hatches be moved to the front plate.
I do agree with you that an M8 CAN be produced by 21C with a modest investment in tooling. It would be a nice little vehicle to have in a collection or a wargame army.

Re: yeap
If Mosquitos... they were used by two Polish squadrons: 305 "Land of Wielkopolska and Lida" (bomber) Sq. (Mosquito Mk. VI) and 307 "City of Lwow" (nightfighter) Sq. (Mk. IIF, Mk. VI, Mk. XII, Mk. XIII and Mk. XXX). It would be nice to see the models with the markings of them...eddie372 wrote:The Me-110 or the Mosquito would be just fantastic.

I would put a second mortgage on my house if they came up with the B-17 in 1:18, but 1:32 would be a very nice first step indeed.

Well, Do we have any new info on new figs and vehicles?tko211 wrote: new 32x vehicles & figs... I have no idea at the moment. BUT I do expect that some answers will be in store at ToyFair in NY in the next 3 weeks!
Intel is going to be a little scarce till then.
I think multi-engine might be in the 32x airplane future... that's my guess!

I had this e-mail from Roy Sutherland from 21st Century Toys yesterday. I think it is some pretty useful info so I wanted to share it with you guys.
Hi guys,
I just wanted to explain a few things about the new 1/32 Zeros and Macchis, There have been a number of questions about some of the schemes and a few other issues.
Our light grey-green Zeros are painted in a color that is the result of a lot of new research and discussion with experts on Japanese colors. The grey-green color was refered to as Ame-Iro, and was called such due to its similarity in color to a candy popular in Japan at the time. There has been discussion of light grey or off-white colors applied to Zeros, but this is from old color profiles drawn before real research had been done into Japanese paints. There are a number of existing airframe parts that are still painted in this color, and it is a greyish green color, and a lot darker than has been previously thought. Remember that wartime Japanese photography at the time was extremely rare and usually of poor quality.
Think about it. Why would anyone want to fly over the ocean in combat conditions in a light grey or off-white aircraft? Your aircraft would stand out like a snowball in a coal bin. Also, the Type 21 and 22 Zeros that were green were usually overpainted in the field to try and camouflage them once they had started operating from island bases. This led to the island based Zero finishes weathering a lot more than the Carrier based paintjobs.
The grey-green camouflage was applied in the factory and was a high quality paint that adhered very well. The green field-applied paint was frequently applied to a unprepared (oily and dirty) aircraft and led to the green paint chipping off, exposing the grey paint underneath. I have not seen a single photo of a 21 or 22 in service with paint chipped down to bare aluminum. There are, however, plenty of profiles showing badly chipped Zeros showing bare metal. Profiles should be taken with a grain of salt. There are many misleading profiles (even recently drawn ones) out there. They are only as good as the research that goes into them.
There have also been a number of comments on problems with the landing gear on the Macchi 202. If you look closely at the landing gear legs, you will find a small hydraulic jack tucked next to the gearleg. Pivot the jack around and tuck its end into the notch in the gearbay. This locks the gear very positively into the down position. Cool, huh?
A lesser known fact is that the Macchi 202 and 205 were built in a number of different factories. Each factory had its own signature camouflage style. Smoke rings from some, squiggles from another, etc. The diagonal striped 205 Veltro scheme is referred to as the herringbone scheme. It was only just recently discovered to have been applied to the Macchi.
Speaking of color profiles, remember that while "Warplanes of The Third Reich" is an amazing reference, and is still a valuable resource, the profiles were done a long time ago, and a mountain of new information about WWII German camouflage has surfaced since then. Many of the profiles contain a number of problems and should not be used to judge accuracy of color schemes today.
Happy collecting!
Roy

Any suggestions for our Luftwaffe reference libraries?Speaking of color profiles, remember that while "Warplanes of The Third Reich" is an amazing reference, and is still a valuable resource, the profiles were done a long time ago, and a mountain of new information about WWII German camouflage has surfaced since then. Thanks for sharing the email Tko.. I honestly never questioned the color schemes because I always knew the light tan/ white was wrong, although the Akagi Zero looks a little dark, I think it is a fine paint scheme..
BTW, if anyone needs good reference material, I would suggest the Planes and Pilots series produced by a French company called Histoire & Collections.. These books come out on individual planes like the Bf-109, Stuka, P-51 Etc, and have a wealth of technical and profile information..
