2013 IPMS National Convention
Just saw this. Pictures of the fantastic models at the 2013 IPMS National Convention.
Some truly exceptional models are shown here, with all different subjects, and scales.
While scrolling through the images of these, ran across something interesting. In the scratch built section, a 1/18 scale Horten, done by none other than our very own Pickelhaube.
You can see by the card that it is indeed one of Matthews, but have no idea who entered it.
To have one of your scratch built models on display at such a prestigious model event such as this, must surely be a source of pride for Matthew.

Cool! That is the full built version of Pickelhaube's 1:18 Horten. No modifications from what I can see. Looks exactly like the one Pickelhaube made for me and I use the same 21c FW-190 pilot and everything:
I'd really like to know who entered it... If not Pickelhaube himself, then perhaps another board member? I recall Pickelhaube saying that he entered the plane into a contest a few months ago and it won in its own category

Tom Edwards was the guy who entered it. He is the guy who is buying the moulds prototype and everything else pertaining to the Horten.
He should be coming down to NOLA at the end of the month to finalize the deal.
I must admit it made me smile seeing the Horten pic at the Nationals. I am sure it did not do well with wings gaps and all but it was still cool seeing it there.
The guy who took the pics must have thought so as well because he took a picture of it.
I wonder if it will turn up in the Fine Scale magazine.
Now that would be cool !!!!!!!!!!!
BTW
Part of the deal I made with Tom was to have this Horten back. I never made one for myself and he is buying the moulds so I never will.
Just hope that when I get it back it will still be in good condition

Ah, the heck with the wing gaps... Its one of the largest scratch-built HO-229s ever made! It's dwarfing anything else on that table. But I hope you do get the Horten back in good condition, it is, after all one of your master creationspickelhaube wrote:I must admit it made me smile seeing the Horten pic at the Nationals. Re: 2013 IPMS National Convention
Mathew is right about the wing gaps but over all it looks great. Its not competing for perfect finish anyway. The raw talent it takes to make that whole thing from scratch should win him a prize and a place in FSM on its own merits.
Has anyone done thier Horton kits? I know Normandy did his, is it done now? has anyone else done one? I would like to see the differant paint jobs.

I went for the full build version, and glad I did.
But would be most interested to see how some of the kit builds came out.
Doing a Google search and some links to the PH Horten.

Looks like Matthews large scale Horten is a hit with others who see it.

That's my build, I posted it on several boards and received a lot of interest. I gave Matthew's contact information to a LOT of people.snake wrote:

I LOVE my Ho229. Matthew delivered mine as a ready to paint version as I was excited to paint my own scheme. I have everything done except the final markings. I need to just get it done and snap some pictures of it.
