Will Captain America produce any good 1:18 Items?
I was checking out some set images of the new Captain America movie. They were of a USO stage, M-10, and a MASH tent. Since this movie is basicly set entirely in WWII, you'ld think some historic WWII toys would be produced.
Here are some of m speculations:
1. US GIs, I can't see them making a cap line without have some of his WWII Buddies.
2. Germans. possible Indiana Jones rehashes, but hopefully we'll see some new more accurate sculpts.
3. Tank, I don't have much hope for this being accurate or to scale, but at least there is a chance of getting a piece of 1:18 armor.
4. V-2 Rocket playset, based on some of the comics, I've read this has a good chance, of seeing the light of day.
5. Captain America on a WWII era motorcyle. This is a shoe-in Hasbro loves to stick super heroes on motorcycles.

hm....doubtful any of the vehicles will be to scale. Knowing hasbro the big ones will be too small and the motorcycle too big.
Any V2 playset will be piddly for sure. A 1/18 V2 would be 30 inches long.
But maybe there will be one or two useful items come out of it...like the truck from the IJ line....they may even reissue it in altered form.

The SDCC "Ultimates" Cap is terrific, better than any of the other versions released in stores.
I would imagine we will get at the very least a very good Nazi attired Red Skull figure.
(Albeit with certain iconography removed, a la the Indy Vogel figure.)
I highly doubt they will reuse Indy parts for this, considering how prominent the figure is, but you never know....
However, given that only the prologue sequence of the film is set in WW2, I doubt we'll see any period vehicles.

Re: Will Captain America produce any good 1:18 Items?
This topic started with speculation, so......
Re: #3, 1:18 Tank/Armor.......The Strikefire Transport could, with some work be transformed into a U.S. M-8 Greyhound.

Once they hit the stores and I pick one up then we'll be able to see what can be done.

Re: Will Captain America produce any good 1:18 Items?
The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that there won't be anything out of this line that appeals to collectors of "realistic" figures.
As much as it would be great to just get Tommy Lee Jones' character, I can't imagine we'll get even that far.
Consider the Iron Man 2 line and the recently-released THOR line. What did we get from IM2? Dozens and dozens of variants on Iron Man. No drones until VERY late in the game. Whiplash was almost impossible to find. Nick Fury barely made it out and Black Widow never did, despite their significance presence in the film.
But we got lots and lots of "comic" and "concept" figures (i.e. - kid oriented figures.)
Hasbro isn't even attempting to appeal to the adult collector with these lines and I can't say I blame them.
So we'll get dozens of variants on Cap himself in the "concept" and "comic" lines. Versions of Cap with big orange rocket launchers that attach to his wrist. That kind of thing.
I can't imagine we'd get any vehicles, aside from maybe a motorcycle, but I wouldn't even expect that to be screen accurate.
Brace yourself for all kinds of wackadoo Cap variants, colorful villains, etc. But almost nothing from the film - and certainly nothing that isn't super KID friendly.

Re: Will Captain America produce any good 1:18 Items?
I don't blame Hasbro ... Iron Man and Cap sell.
For the past two years I've had more Iron Man's, Captain Rex's, and Spider-Mans showing up on my doorstep for Halloween.
Looking at the older posts, it looks like the SDCC Cap may return as a repaint. He is an awesome figure, and I'll be happy to see other collectors get him at a reasonable price.

Looks like the 1:18 Captain America products are out.... http://www.10mfh.com/random-news/captai ... ve-stores/
Since there is a lull in the 1:18 action around here, I'll see if I can find the strikefire transport and see if we can make an M8 Greyhound out of it.

I've not seen the Red Skull yet, but want him. The WWII caps are excellent. One is from the current line, one from the marvel line, and one was the SDCC exclusive:

Re: Will Captain America produce any good 1:18 Items?
ok, i spent 5 minutes looking at pics of the toy vs the real thing. It's not bad. If you look passed the chap mei like crap on it, the hull is actually well shaped. The turret needs help and is too small and not quite shaped right. but there seem to be many variations of the greyhound, including an open topped version.
Size wise i think it's pretty good. A bit big if anything but very close. Should be about 11 inches long, 5 2/3 inches wide and 5 inches high to be 1/18.
With some TLC and some weapons, stowage, paint and weathering i think it could definitely be a passable M8.
has anyone gotten one of the Cpt. America armoured cars yet? Comments? Size?

Re: Will Captain America produce any good 1:18 Items?
I've seen them around in stores and looked the box over. Something just keeps me from picking it up. Its an M8, but really too far off the mark unless Pickelhaube comes up with a serious make-over kit
