I have place preorders numerous times with BadCat, so I'll offer my observations...
Preorderes will not get a generated message, but your order is in their system. It has something to do with the fact that they don't charge you (thereby creating an order sheet) until the actual item is in stock and ships.
As MG-42 noted, their customer service is top-notch, and they will gladly call up your order to confrim that it went through.
