GWS F-15

Post by aferguson » Fri Jul 06, 2007 7:52 am

The same people that have brought us the only 1/18 scale A-10 on the market have now put out an F-15 that is close-ish to 1/18. Length is pretty much bang on but it's a bit spanny, a common occurence for r/c aircraft. I don't think it's all that noticable. Since they're isnt exactly a steady stream of 1/18 jets rolling of the assembly lines, this may be the best option for some time to come...

I have found no info on pricing or where to buy yet... but i would guess the basic kit is around $50

Edit: here is some more info. Looks like it will be in stores in August.

This is a foam flyer? It looks pretty decent - meaning all the seams and such on the body. Or are those just decals?

they are prepainted in a dark, sort of grey colour, overall...the production has not begun yet, so they may end up being painted in two tones of grey, like the prototype pics. Any additional painting is up to the buyer, but the base colour is quite usable from what i can tell.

The panel lines are scribed into the foam, as far as i know. A full set of decals is provided with the kit, as is a clear canopy.

Close up you will be able to see the foam texture for sure but it disappears at a few feet's distance. I have a couple of foam plains (beaufighter and B-25) and the foamy texture is really not that bothersome. There is a method of painting foam planes that will get rid of the foam texture altogether, but it is somewhat labour intensive. The crudest part of the plane appears to be the exhaust outlets, which is not uncommon on foam jets.

They are to be available for sale in August.

Btw, there is talk they may also come out with an F-15E variant, which would basically mean a different canopy...no ordnance is provided.
