I've entered several threads where I asked how/where to find electric motors for 1:18 aircraft. By accident, I found what I think is the perfect one. I test drove this on the 21c Corsair (1:32 scale) and it fit perfectly. I then tested it on the 1:18 P-47 and again it worked great.
Here goes, at Wallmart they're selling a water sprayer bottle that's designed like your everyday liquid bathroom cleaner (windex etc) except on the front of it there's a foam propellar for blowing air as well. It runs on 2 AA batteries and works great. The motor is just like those I used 30 years ago on models I built as a kid. The cost of the item is (about) $4.50 and again can fit in aircraft as small as 1:32.
The identical motor is used on a fan only, pocket version (only blows air) that sells for about half the price. The only problem however is that the rod that spins the propeller is shorter. I'm partial to the larger shaft as it fit the corsair perfectly. No extra work needed to be done as it was long enough to fit through the first ring of cylinders and width-wise fit inside the spinner just fine.
The bottles are found (in my Wallyworld) between the hardware (paint) and the summer seasonal beach stuff. I grabbed a few, took them home and tore out the motors. Prego, it's in there.
One more note. Just like any cleaner type bottle you have in the bathroom, a plastic feeder tube is used to move the liquid up to the handle (sprayer). Keep this as well as in one experiment I cut off part of it and used it to connect the prop to the motor. It worked great.
I hope this helps some of you who like me were looking for motors like these.
