Question on field repaints/overhauls on German tanks???

Post by metalwar » Fri Apr 20, 2007 6:57 am

My question is, would it be uncommon for a Tiger I to be repainted for urban warfare late in the war. I am asking because I want to repaint a Tiger (becasuse I can't find a Panther) in the camo scheme I saw on a Forces of Valor Panther that was two color angled camo. My other idea would be to paint the hull of a Tiger in primer and the turret left in camo as if the tiger was in the process of being overhauled and was pressed back into service. Do either of these sound feasible or likely?

In the 2nd situation you described, it would be more likely to see the tiger with the hull or turet repainted in a camo, an the other left in a base color instead of a primer. I have seen photo's of German tank crews repainting their Tiger II with a spray gun. They could also use brushes and even mops to paint their vehicles. It would seem that at least touch ups and repaints of the camo where done in the field. Most crews wouldn't take the time to remove the paint down to the primer before repainting.

Some of theTtiger's 2 had the red primer. The Tiger 1's no.Nor did they have the amush paint. There has been some debate on this but no pictures have ever surfaced to prove other wise.
