A question about sculpty????

Hello all, I was wondering if anybody here uses sculpty? And if so, what are the pros and cons with it? In other words what are the limitations with using it? I was thinking about buying some but I don't want to waste my time or money. Thanks......T.O

It depends on what you're using it for. The 'sculpy clay' I use has to be baked in an oven for a few minutes to harden up. you can add foil to help hollow out some larger pieces. I have found that it works well for making stuff for dioramas like sandbags, or bricks and rubble. the last thing I tried was a palm tree trunk. I'm not finished yet, I need to find some leaves etc...

...speaking of which I have way too many unfinished projects...

sculpy is very nice for sculpting as it is soft and easy to work with. You can boil your piece in water for about three minutes, instead of baking in the oven and it will be just as hard.

The drawback of sculpy is that your piece will be quite brittle and will chip and break fairly easily. It can be repaired with krazy glue, however. Paints well with acrylic paints.

If you are making something large you'll need to make an armature first, to add strength and stiffness to the finished piece.

I never heard of this stuff. Were can you get it? I use a 2 part epoxy that is like stiff clay and you have about 15 minets working time I have used it for helmets and uniform customs.

Ive seen it at Hobby-lobby and Michaels. I've always heard about it just never tried to use it. I'll probably pick up some and give it a whirl.
