Found this at a local WM today for $8.88, box says it's 1/18th and it looks it. Made by an outfit called ERTL, I've never heard of them

Anyway, I'm not sure if the military even uses ATV's but I think they might, and I believe I have a BBI 1/18th goggled modern trooper figure around here someplace that would like nice sitting on this thing, it might make a decent custom if I ever get the time to repaint it.

Ertl made some ATV's with hunters a few years back that were 1/18. They came with various accessories and could often be found pretty cheap. Quite handy for custom work.

ERTL has been around in the model car and tractor industry forever, both plastic and diecast. They make a nice series of 1/18 die-cast cars, including a lot of musclecars from the 60's and 70's, and also a pretty extensive series of farm equipment like tractors and such (although I don't know what scale--I don't think it is 1/18 ). I believe theye also recently started a series of die-cast motorcycles, but don't quote me on that.
As far as military uses for ATV's, I have seen them used for security patrols and search and rescue in places like northern Michigan and out west. And I would be surprised if they aren't used by special forces and such.

ERTL is a big name in die cast replicas and toys. I remember having toys made by them back in the late 70's early 80's and I have some John Deere construction equipment made by them. I've always been interested in heavy equipment, excavators, bulldozers, etc. Quality stuff.
I know the military uses dirt bikes so I'm sure they use ATVs since they are so useful.

Cool pictures, thanks! I really like the pic of a ton of ATVs swarming out of a Galaxy!
Snap some guns and missles on those bad boys and you'll have a sweet GI Joe vehicle from the 80's who's name my rusty soon to be 32 year old brain can't recall even though I know I had one of the dang things! It was a Cobra vehicle IIRC.

G'day All
I visited an Army museum over Easter and it just so happens they had one of the Australian SAS Honda ATV's that has been in use in Afghanistan, it was a stock standard civilian model that was by them over in painted in a two colour cam, it even still had all the warning placards one even saying that the vehicle was not suitable for those under the age of 16.
Here are some pictures:
I hope they get around to releasing these down here, as this would be a very simple custom to do.
