21c/NMT 1:48 Panzer IV Tank Modifications

Post by tmanthegreat » Fri Mar 30, 2007 12:12 am

Here's a few quick pictures of some small modifications I've made to my 21c 1:48 scale Panzer IVs. I really wished that these tanks came with at least one crew figure, but alas! Therefore, I made my own using some spare 1:48 scale figures that I had.

The commander for the Panzer IV H is actually the upper torso and head of a German ground crew figure that came with a Revell 1:48 ME-262 model kit. I removed the arms and painted the figure to look like a tanker. I plan to eventually make schurtzen for this tank as well.

The commander of the Panzer IV D uses a 1:48 scale US Bomber pilot figure that came with a Revell 1:48 B-29 kit. The pilot's head worked well because of the cap and headphones. The body more or less resembles the black coveralls of a German tanker, with the coat casually left open to expose the uniform. I will admit the pointing pose is kind of dorky, but I didn't want to significantly alter the figure. The stowage on the rear deck of the tank are FOV 1:72 pieces.

The next challenge is to make a custom crew for the 1:48 Flakpanzer Wirblewind 8)

Anyone know of a good source for 1:48 figures (painted or unpainted), preferably Germans?

Great use of 1/48 figures! I am trying to remember the manuf. that I saw the other day at a hobby store that I think would fit. Dragon? I am going to run by there and in a few days and I will post what they have.

Thanks! Those Tamiya German figures are perfect, and they even have tank crewmen :D

Looking good T, I can't wait to see the Wirbel crew. 8) I have one of those gray Panzer IV's like yours that I did some pretty extensive weathering on, I'll have to post some pics of it sometime.

Bandai put out many 1/48 models and figures around 20-30 years ago. This one will get you Schurtzen and 3 figures.
Search Ebay for "1/48 Bandai".
