F-86 Wing Issue

Post by Timbo » Sat May 06, 2006 4:17 pm

I took my F-86 out of the box today and found that there is a gap in the trailing edge of the left wing that is causing the flap to just hang loose. It is most likely the result of misaligned peg/hole and should be a simple fix. Has anyone taken their wing apart to correct an issue like this? I sent AT an email asking them the same thing but I thought I'd put the question out here as well. I'll post their response when I receive it.

I have a similar problem with the interior gap and loose flap, but I stiffened the flap with a small piece of cardboard (painted silver) in the space between the fuselage and the flap. I'm too afraid to tear apart the wing. Even without my "brace" on the flap, it still stayed flush with the wing well enough not to cause me any serious concern.

Well, just to update this, I got a reply from AT and they told me that it was not practical to attempt to repair the wing myself. They asked me to provide them with the name of the dealer I bought the plane from and they would take care of it from there. It's been nearly three weeks since then and not a word. I've emailed them again and have yet to receive a reply. I would be much less annoyed if they had simply said there was nothing they could do.

I had the same problem with my F86

...where the two halves of the left wing were not fitting together tightly allwoing the flap to hang loose.

I, too, got nowhere with emails. Apparently, most of the guys are off in China taking care of that end of the business leaving one person to take care of everything else at home base -- hence the long lag time between email communications.

I ended up calling their customer service number and got taken care of. I just received a prepaid UPS label from Admiral toys which I am going to use to return the plane to Badcat for an exchange.

Basically, just call them - that's the best way -- the number is on their website.

Hope this helps.

"To Whom It May Concern:

Admiral Toys Incorporated is well aware of the gap issue with a few of our models. We have taken the necessary steps to remedy this situation with our facility in China and hope to have eradicated this problem.

We have spoken with each retailer that has notified us of a customers’ issue and have given them the following advice:

Please replace the defective product at no charge to the customer. Admiral Toys Incorporated will provide you the retailer with a new F-86 when our replacements arrive from China. At this time it is not Admiral Toys’ policy to charge for shipping of defective products and ask you the retailer to charge Admiral Toys for the shipping cost of the replaced product, not your customer. We ask that you please not take advantage of our free shipping policy or it will change in the future.

Admiral Toys will send the customer a pre-paid call back, shipping label, in the mail to be placed on the defective products’ box and returned to us. We want to have the defective product in hand to better affect our ability to remedy quality control issues such as this in the future.

Wharthog75, is almost correct in his assumption that most of Admiral Toys’ directors and officers were in China the past week and a half. We do have a solid team of qualified employees to handle our domestic issues while we are away on business. This is not an excuse for a lacks in customer service. None of the individuals who were in China deal with customer service on a daily basis. We only get involved with issues that need a bit more attention then your average request.

Again the only reason we are asking our retailers to assist in customer returns at this time is because we are totally sold out of the F-86. We have enough models coming to the US to replace the defective models of our retailers and fill orders in the future.

I hope this clears up the wing gap issue. If you have any questions please feel free to palace a questions here or email Admiral Toys.

Regards,

Jason"
