A Wierd/Strange Idea

Post by krieglok » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:01 am

I had a thought cross my mind(a short trip) the other night about the 21st stuff that appears and disappears off the shelves at our favorite local Walmarts. In all the times I have been there to pick through stuff, I have never come across a fellow collector who is there for the same reason. I am not bashful about looking through stuff when someone else is in the isle, but then I thought that if there was another collector there, they would keep their distance either waiting their turn or just being NJ people and avoiding contact with strangers.

Then I came up with an idea. What if a card was descretely placed in some 21st products(with thier loosely sealed box ends) with this forum`s web address? I thought it might be interesting to see who surfaces in our respective areas. I also figured it would considered product tampering so probably not a good idea. The other consideration is that not everyone has internet access.

I also wondered if it would be worth 21st`s time to drop a card into their products for the purpose of surveying who buys, why and what they are interested in in terms of models/toys.

Just thinking out loud...

It would be a good idea but think about who would take the time to fill out the info cards and return them to 21st. It would be akin to buying electronic equipment and filling out the registration cards then mailing them back to the manufacturer.

Its an interesting idea, and yeah, one had better watch out for being caught with product tampering while in the store. 21c could supply cards with our site address, however, that may be a little unfair. Although this forum is perhaps the largest "fan site" for 21c products, there are still other boards that also have to be mentioned, such as E-Company, The 6th Division, and others in the interest of fairness.

Besides, 21c has already reached a solution: Every 21c box and package mentions the 21c web address and fanclub web-site. Buyers that may want to know more about 21c products can check the fan site where (thanks to TKO) there is a regular updating on new 21c products. Further, if the site is explored, they will find links leading them to this site and any of the others relating to 21c products. Thats actually how I found the old GP forum a few years ago.

Considering those people that may not have internet access, 21c has provided a somewhat current "catalogue" on the back of their product boxes and figure cards that show current and upcoming products.

So, the inserting cards is an interesting idea (and it makes sense) however, 21c has us covered :D

Hey Krieglok Im in NNJ and you are right, I never see any other middle age kids or any one eles for that matter checking out the 21stC toy section. Maybe its beacuse the Wms in my area never have anything but 190s. Or the toy managers are selling them to their buddys as soon as the items arive in the stock room.

Trust me guys, it was just an idle thought. We will not be staking out the toy isles or sneaking things into boxes.

LP, I used to hit the TRU in Parsippany when I lived in Dover. My daughter was collecting some type of Sailor Moon figure and we were trying to find the "guy" figure. The manager at the TRU said there was one guy for every 20 moon figures and they were taken by the employees as soon as they were opened up.

My Walmart doesnt seem to have the scalping problem. I know one of the toy section people and they dont seem interested in doing that kind of stuff. Judging by the amount of stuff available there, I believe them.
