? about BBi P-51 Mustang...

Post by Cripesamighty » Mon Dec 19, 2005 5:53 pm

Hi, Guys. I just bit the bullet and bought the BBI 1:18 Cripes-a-Mighty Mustang from Bad Cat, my first 1:18. I was wondering how BBI compares to 21st Century as far as detail and accuracy.

I know now is a little too late to inquire after I already ordered it, but I just had to have it. It is one of my all time favorite WWII planes and paint schemes. Not to mention that George Preddy was a Carolina boy!

Thanks in advance for any info! :D

Well, 21st Century toys is coming out with a new P-51D Mustang in the near future, and having seen the prototype at a convention not long ago, I think you'll find 21st's mustang to knock out the BBi one. But, at the moment, BBi holds the 1st place as far as Mustangs in this market.
As far as all aircraft overall, it's really hard to judge who has the best as far as detail and quality because it varies from aircraft to aicraft. Personally, I think the 21st Century Toys F-104 Starfighter is one of the most detailed aircraft ever along with the 21st Century Toys BF-109 G-6. The Avenger, having seen that as well, is going to knock out everyone in the market as far as detail. It's by far the most amazing 1:18 aircraft that will be out there once it's released.

Thanks, P-51. I do agree that just looking at the planes online and the pics here that 21st seems to be the top dogs as far as realism and quality goes.

Do you think 21st will ever do a P-51 in the Cripes-a-Mighty paint scheme? I think any Tuskegee scheme would be a hit also. Can you tell I'm a big Mustang fan? :)

I would certainly agree on the 21c F-104 and BF-109G (especially the post S1 versions) as being some of the best 1:18 aircraft out there. BBI has also done an excellent job on their Corsair (minus the flaps) and especially their Zero, as well as their P-51. I can't speak for the new 21c P-51 having not had the fortune to see one in person, but the BBI one is still a very accurate plane!

The Avenger, as evidenced by the photos of the paint prototypes on the Area21 fanclub site, as well as the pictures in the Avenger Review thread on this forum, should blow all other 1:18 aircraft out of the sky in terms of size, quality, functionality and detail - when it eventually is released 8)

21st century obviously is the winner in the "most products" category and I agree that the starfighter is beautifully made. But stand BBI's corsair or mustang next to 21c's and theres no contest.
Having seen the avenger in its packaging though, 21c is definately improving and to eveyones benefit were all getting a much better product than the first 1/18 arrivals.
merry christmas to all.
