BBI 1/18 Knights

Post by aferguson » Tue Nov 08, 2005 9:07 am

I ordered a bunch of these and they came today. All very nice, noticably better than the Schleich offerings. Better detail, much better faces and better proportioning (the Schleichs tend to have huge heads and hands).

No articulation, although some of the weapons and sheilds are detachable. Excellent paint details. They are about the same size as the Schleichs and quite suitable for 1/18. The horses are a tad on the small side but fine.

I have no idea how accurate they are as i'm not very knowledgeable on the subject but i do recognize some of the heraldry used, if that means anything. They LOOK more accurate than the Schleich knights.

Highly recommended to anyone interested in the subject matter.

Looking forward to the second wave of knights, the Romans and the Civil war figures too. Nice change of pace from WW2 and Modern stuff...

What company makes them and where did you get them?

I am interested in the Civil War figs in 1/18 scale.

Let me know.

Cool! Given your review on the knights, those proposed Roman soldiers may be well worth the purchase if and when they come out. Now if only they could have articulation...

Well, the BBI 1/18 Knights are by BBI.....that's why i called them BBI 1/18 scale knights. :P

I bought them on Ebay...$5.29 per figure, $11.99 per mounted figure.

I believe Mike said that the second wave of knights and the Romans are in production or will be shorty. The Civil War line is scheduled for this time next year i think, and i expect it will be pretty popular. I hope BBI keeps this WOTW series going and we see more from these series plus Napoleanics, Revolutionary war etc. Great potential and long overdue.

I should add to my review that the Schleich knights are still very much worth getting. They feature different amour styles, different weapons and poses etc plus they already have a Crusader line out which features several Muslim warriors, all of which are pretty good.

ive actually been looking for someone that has bought these.
i wanted to get them but kind of get the feeling that they are 3 1/2 " not 4"
i have wanted knight figures for ever but these will look funny to me being a half" shorter or basically a head shorter than all my other figures, because my toys all share one diorama world.

has anyone seen the chap mei big lots knights?

for a cheap bargain company i think these knights arent half bad and they are actually 4" tall, i have been going crazy trying to find the castle set for them though if anyone can help?

Well, both the BBI and Schleich knights are a tad shorter than XD and BBI 1/18 figures but they look just fine beside them. There heads and hands are to scale with the 1/18 figures so they don't look like they are a smaller scale, they just look like they are slightly shorter people.

Besides, people in Medieval times were a lot shorter than they are today. If you've ever seen real suits of armour in a museum there is no way an average sized guy would fit into them today. The average knight was around 5 ' 5" tall.

Trust me....both BBI and Schleich knights look fine in a 1/18 collection. The horses are a tad small is all....around 14 to 14.5 hands high. If you can't live with them the way they are (which really isn't bad at all) just heighten them a bit by lengthening the shank of the legs by 1/4 inch or so. Makes a big difference to their appearance.

i see that BBI has a bunch more knights coming out, plus, for Lord of the Rings fans, they have a 'Ranger' figure, 'Elf archer' figure, Wizard figure and what looks like a Lord of the Nazgul figure.

They're not called LOTR figures, for obvious liscensing reasons but they look extremely similar to the move characters.

Maybe some orc figures in the future?

Fun. :)

Hmmm...I wonder if the Tolkien Estate knows about these figs...

But damn, I want that siege tower.

I'm lucky enough to be able to buy them here in NZ. The figs cost
$NZ 4.95, about $US 3.50. I'm hoping more BBI will turn up at that retail chain.

Does anyone have a link or can post a picture of the BBI 1/18 Civil War line that was coming out around 2006? Foxhole toys had them up, but they are gone and no trace of their site or picture of this exist.
Please post if you have any or a link.
Thanks,
