New True Heroes Truck

Post by aferguson » Fri Aug 12, 2011 3:10 pm

just in case this was missed in the other thread.

Opinions as to what it could be used for? TTT i'd like to hear what you think. It's 13 inches long, which is 19 feet 6 inches. The molded in rolled up side in the canvas cargo top is kind of annoying.

I bought one a while back, when my son is done playing with it, I will mod it.

Isn't that the exact same truck from the Animal Planet promotional toys? I'm pretty sure it was used as some sort of mobile animal hospital for animals that would probably eat your face off.

I believe so, I bought the animal hospital version.

yes that seems to be the same truck, although the rolled up side flap of the true heroes version is replaced by what looks like a flat panel on the animal planet truck? Is the panel on both sides of the cargo top or just the left side?

I've been looking at photos and by adding a second set of wheels in front of the rear ones, this would make a passable short wheel base deuce and a half. That side flap is going to be a pain to cover up though.

i saw these at TRU today, in the flesh. Not bad looking and quite a good size. Was on sale for $17. I didn't get it because it's only a single axel truck and i'm not sure how useful it would be.

TTT any comments?

It could pass for a Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck with one rear axle. I have seen pictures of DAK using captured trucks like these in DAK colors.

hm, good call. It would pass for that. Give it an nice olive drab repaint. For $17 can't go wrong. It may actuallly be too big, i was surprised by the size of it, for a chap mei.

Heres some more info:

I didn't see this thread.

Yes, the 1 1/2 ton Chevy pops up immediately. I owned one.
Mine as bought:

Many German trucks had only one axle in the rear also, like the Opel Blitz. But the rear body has an American look to it.

To be super, the trucks needs a new front body, but who is "counting rivets" anyway.

Seeing as how 1/18 is very short on cargo trucks, anything is welcome.

thanks TTT. I'm thinking of making a Red Ball Express type of truck out of it, complete with african american driver. Far from perfect but it will have the overall look to it..

The Red Ball Express used CCKW's as the "base" truck but almost every kind of cargo truck was used. There are plenty of pics of vehicles up to Pacific Tank Transporters loaded up with cases of ammo and gasoline cans used at the front.

This truck would be fine...
