1/72nd scale jets.

Post by skyraider » Mon Feb 07, 2011 12:32 pm

Hi guys,

For a while I went back and forth about what scale models to collect. I don't have a whole lot of room for display, so I went with 1/72nd scale jet aircraft. I am sure glad I did, as the model that are out now are really nice. They are still a good size, with plenty of detail, and they look great displayed. Looks like I will have more of these coming in the future. :)

We are in sort of a "golden age" in terms of 1:72 jets and 1:72 scale military in general. My collection of 1:72 jets has really spiked over the past few months as well. I went from having about 6 (of which four were the older Matchbox collectable planes, 1 FOV and one Hobby Master) to something like 20 now, largely the recent Hobby Master century-series and Vietnam-era jets. It will likely continue to grow 8)

As tman has said, we are in a great time to collect 1/72 jet aircraft.

Lots of different manufacturers, and the selection of aircraft available is very impressive, and expanding quite rapidly.

Century Wings is my favourite, although their selection of aircraft is limited. But their quality is second to none. They do the F-14, A-7, A-7, F-8, and the fantastic SR-71.

Hobby Master are great quality as well, and they have been releasing a lot of new models lately. The great F-111, and F-102 are the latest releases, and they will be releasing the F-101, and F-106 in the near future. And there are rumours they will be doing the F-15, F-16 and F-18 in the future. The HM F-4's are really well done, and the amount of schemes done is pretty incredible. They are probably best known for their F-4 Phantoms. However, all their releases are very well done.

Corgi do a number of jets as well, however their quality is not as good as their props. But they do a number of jets that no other manufacturer does.

Dragon and Witty both release some pretty decent jets, but I don't collect Witty just because they are gear down option only. I have quite a few Dragon, with a large number of F-15's, F-16's and F-18's. Great value, although their weapons load are a little light.

And I have always liked Gaincorp, although they are not for everybody. But they do have a good selection of Su27 Flanker, and variants.

It really is a great time to collect jets. :D
