Merrill Marauders figure set

Post by 75th Ranger » Fri Jul 29, 2005 11:01 am

The attack on Myitkyina was the climax to four months of marching and combat in the Burma jungles. No other American force except the First Marine Division, which took and held Guadalcanal for four months, has had as much uninterrupted jungle fighting service as Merrill's Marauders. But no other American force anywhere had marched as far, fought as continuously or had to display such endurance, as the swift-moving, hard-hitting foot soldiers, of Merrill's Marauders.

For their accomplishments in Burma the Marauders were awarded the "DISTINGUISHED UNIT CITATION" in July, 1944. However in 1966 this award was redesignated as the "PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION" which is awarded by the President in the name of Congress. The Marauders also have the extremely rare distinction of having every member of the unit receive the "BRONZE STAR".

Unit Citation
Bronze Star

The unit was consolidated with the 475th Infantry on August 10, 1944. On June 21, 1954, the 475th was redesignated the 75th Infantry. It is from the redesignation of Merrill's Marauders into the 75th Infantry Regiment that the modern-day 75th Ranger Regiment traces its current unit designation...

I commented on these new boxes in the aviation legends post. I think it would be a great idea to make some of these special edition figures, like the SS set and the Merril's set . A few years back 21st had talked about coming out with big figure sets; you would get like a dozen figs and then some vehicle or building. That would be really neat in my opinion. Let's hope it happens.

Wasn't there a movie with that same name? I'll have to go look it up. That would be so cool to get a set of those figures!

The movie was released in 1962 and starred Jeff Chandler as Gen Frank Merrill and Ty Hardin. :D

Isn't the new movie "The Great Raid" about Rangers liberating a Japanese POW camp in the Pacific with Americans survivors of the Bataan Death March?? A true story.

Talk about a timely tie in.

I think about how speedy can 21C act on that tie in and then I remember my pre-order of the Avenger. Another timely releases like the Sahara line and the P-40 from that other movie so old I can't remember the title.

Yeah, I read Ollie Norths Pacific Theater War Stories and it talked about how they stormed the camp and freed the prisoners-pretty amazing stuff. I would like to see these figs.

I really like the idea about having big figure sets.

I hope the figures will be available separately, so that if you already own the command car and weapons carrier, you don't have to buy them again just to get the figures. If that's the case, I'll pass on it.

I don't know about the command car but another weapons carrier wouldn't hurt. :D
