1:18 German coastal gun
My 1:18 German coastal gun made it to EBay... It still needs something more but ??? take a look and shoot me some ideas...
well, i'm no expert on german fortifications but it looks to me that the casemate is too small for the size of gun. There has to be room for recoil plus a large number of crewman inside there, plus ventelation from fumes etc.
It could also use some camoflauge or at least netting.
Overall it's quite a nice job however.

GREAT.. So it would be more like 1:32 scale? I didnt find too much info on these. this one came from a picture but no refs to gage the size. Thank you for your input lookin at camo now...
maybe 1/32 if you put a smaller gun in it. To me the gun just looks too big for the bunker.
Osprey has a book on western wall fortifications which has loads of info and pics; it's by steve zaloga. If you plan to continue making these fortificatons you might want to get a copy. It will give you lots of ideas and greater accuracy.
A mortar or machine gun tobruk would be a good thing to make.

Thanks. I have a friend who works t a Hobbeytown that can get me those books, This is the feedback I need to improve my work.. I will downsize the gun and hit th books.. danke

That's my favorite of the 2, I also like the german field fortifications book also.
yea I agree with Afreg, it's in no way a working piece of artillery, a mock up as used in the wall defenses sure..but the mechanics of the gun, crew space, ammo magazine(as you don't want to be running for shells and charges(Note: the gun would be uses these, not single piece shells, like on a 75/88mm). I think even a 10.5cm le FH 18/40 would be too big for the casemate to perform..maybe a 7.5cm le FK 97 but that would be more in a ATG position or open gun pit.
Anyways back to my point. It looks like a 5" gun turret from a destroyer, but if you look at French 155s, german 17cm, and 21cm artillery, the gun it's self, even if removed from the carriage for a fixed mounting takes up a lot of room, plus you need extra room to move around to service the gun meaning cleaning and maintence.
A good number of Artillery positions are still around, on western coast of europe, southern france, and Italy(found some good ones in italy looking for 9cm AA guns perserved in the country) and the photos, walkthroughs and blueprints can be found online without much hassle.
