Spinning prop question.

Post by Sabrefan » Fri Jan 01, 2010 8:41 am

Anyone know how to make a prop look like it is spinning on an 18th scale P-51? I would like to hang one of my Mustangs to display it, but I was wondering what would make a real looking spinning disk? Anyone done this? Thanks.

there is a modelling technique using a clear plastic disk with squiggles drawn/painted on it to look like prop blade smudges. Looks ok on smaller models but i don't know how good it would look in 1/18.

Motorizing it is another solution, or having a fan blowing on it to spin the prop.

The simplest solution may be to just remove the prop blades altogether and just have the spinner. In real life you can't really see a propeller spinning from a distance...only in pictures or movies you can see the blades of a spinning prop due to the stop action of the film.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...
