a local TRU put out Pearl Harbor Planes on Black Friday

Post by STUKA » Fri Nov 27, 2009 9:15 am

So I was at a TRU at 12 am this morning - by the time I checked out of the three hour checkoutline it was 4 am - one hour to get in the store - all to save a few bucks on some items for my daughter....

anyway it seems a lot of items that had been put in the back for over a year was out on the floor - including warhawks 1:18 - and Dak figures - the going price was 48.99 i think which frustrated me because they had been ob clearance last year...

so if youre bored maybe your tru pulled some 1:18 out of the back....

starwars figures were buy one and get one free -

but that gimick started at 5 am - no signs anywhere to explain that - but they figures were limited to pegwarmers -

I believe they will have no trouble moving those aircraft @ $50 this year considering that there is not that much else available. I too found a case of Pearl Harbor P-40's in the warehouse a month or so ago. Although I couldn't get rid of those a year ago they sold quite quickly once I got them online. It's a matter of timing, overall marketplace availability, and what other item(s) are out around the same time competing for collector attention.

I see that greatmodels.com is taking pre-orders for a 1:18 P-40B, so it must indeed by a JSI re-release.

If someone could confirm if it was in 21st Century or JSI packaging I think this would answer the question.

Maybe the preorders are for the JSI RAF P-40 shown at aikens and elsewhere.

Flying Tiger most mysterious...

Post by c44 » Sat Nov 28, 2009 12:48 pm

Well, the Great Models' site states "AVG Chinese Air Force 3rd Pursuit Squadron"...things get curiouser and curiouser...and has anybody seen that pic of the PH P-40 before with the pilot sitting on the wing (the one on the Fairfield site)?...I wonder if the photo is left over from 21CT's days or something new...

I don't know about the Fairfield site, but the Great Models site has had that particular entry about the "AVG Chinese Air Force 3rd Pursuit Squadron" on it's site for more year. I had emailed them about getting a shipment of figures from 21st Century (when 21stC's status was still a mystery). Plus, if you search using the MFG: 21st Century this plane comes up, not JSI.

Well, my local TRUs looked like disaster areas on Black Friday with tons of people, rerouted aisles, and stuff all over the floor. The Wal Marts and Targets I went in looked the same as well... When I made my way to the military and Star Wars sections, nothing was really different from the few days before. Nothing old was pulled out from the stockroom, at least from what I saw there. The last 21c any of my local TRUs had was an S2 Pak 40 hanomag, which I bought for $15 and have since cannabilized for a custom project I'm working on

At $15 the halftracks are always a must buy! :) I long since cleared out the stock from one of my local TRUs.

The week before Thanksgiving there still was one remaining P-40 @$50 at the Arden Fair TRU. I agree with those that feel it is still a good price. (Heck, I bought one of the Bad Cat P-51s this weekend for $35.)
