1/16 scale RC Stug III coming

Post by ostketten » Sat Jun 21, 2008 4:50 pm

For anyone who is in to RC armor, or has ever thought about taking the plunge, this might be worth taking a look at. I believe these are already available in Europe, but apparently a US supplier will have these in stock in about 2-3 weeks. It looks sweet, and the paint scheme looks strikingly similar to the 32X Stug IV that came in one of the playsets.

Here's a link to the guy who will carry them... http://www.rcscalemodel.com/

I hope FOV comes out with some new armor. A Sturmgeschutz would be a nice start. I'm not into RC but a few years ago i bought a 1:16th Tamiya King Tiger with Porsche turret for $400.00. That was alot then and is still a hefty price tag, thats why I moved to 1:18th it was affordable. Lets see what the future holds.

GOOGLYDOOGLY i saw your comment on the other board about the gun barrel of the Stug looking too slim. The stug had a 75mm gun, not an 88. And since that's not the actual finished product but apparentlly a dragon model, that's probably why it looks too slim, as some dragon models tend to have overly slim barrels.

The Tamiyas are still pretty expensive, that's true, but the Heng Long, Matorro, and WSN/Trumpeter 1/16 RC tanks average around $100 ea. including delivery, and this kind of price is probably at or near what the upcoming 21st KT will sell for, so there really is not a big difference there, and level of detail on most of the newer RC tanks is as good or better than than most static models, plus you get a tank that you can actually drive around, shoot at things, run over stuff, terrorize the cat, it makes tank engine and firing sounds etc. I'll still probably buy some of the XD static models, but the new generation of RC tanks represents some of the best of both worlds.

Oh I know, but the Heng Longs and Matorro tanks always have oversized barrels, because they shoot 6mm BB pellets.

That's why the first thing I do whenever I get a HL or Matorro tank is to change the barrel.

Some new pics of the 1/16 Stug are up at RCU... it looks like a Heng Long, but nobody seems to know for sure. Detail looks good, now we just have to wait and see what paint schemes will be offered. Scroll down a bit and the pics are near the end of the thread....

it's a different version from the first picture. Are they planning on offering both types of mantlets?

Apparently the first pic (the one with the camo and Saukopf mantlet) was of a Dragon 1/72 model, don't ask me why though.... possibly because it will represent the paint scheme of the 1/16 Stug...?? I sure hope so, because I really don't feel like doing a complete repaint of a gray one. :?

Stug looks pretty good. The only thing about the factory camo so far on the HL's is that they kind of suck. I don't know why you wouldn't want to paint it anyway, you did a pretty nice job on your KT. :D

Thanks for the compliment on the KT. As for HL, I was kinda hoping they would step up and release some paintjobs for the North America market like the "special editions" that are currently being sold in Europe and the UK. You can check out some of the pics here....

Yeah I know, those are much nicer than the stock ones, but seem to be unavailable in North America and prices at Tankzone

I've bought a few Tiger upgrade parts from their ebay seller and the prices weren't too bad however.

It makes sense to be HL as they have the MK III chassis already.

The HL are way better than Mattoro...excepting that "panther" mess.

I saw Tamiya has a 1/16 MK IV coming out as well.

I really want that Jadgpanther but $$$

that grey stug is a knock off(100%) of the tamiya kit(Mittle Stug) even the crews are the same. I know I built the StuG in 1/35 with those figures 3 years ago.

I don't think it's quite a 100% knockoff as the HL is in 1/16. HL have already done a PzIII which has the same chassis as a stug and Tamiya have never done a PzIII in 1/16. The figures I understand do look like Tamiya figures and they're certainly not above copying Tamiya as with the Tiger.

.... though as you can see it was meant to be a copy, the HL tigers commander figure is a horrible little shriveled green mess

I can't seem to find any 1/16th Stug conversion kits for the PZIII. In this case it looks like someone/company has made one and fully assembled kits are going to be sold with the recoil upgrade included, so I'd add a couple of hundred bucks on top of the normal HL tank cost for this one!

I don't know Nev, the guy at RCU who is going to sell these says they will be in line price wise with the other 1/16 RC tanks he sells, the tanks at his website average around $80-$100, so I doubt these will go for $300...?? BTW, Bill from rcscalemodel says this is a new release from Heng Long.
