Thoughts on 1/16 OPFOR Options?

Post by Gunner » Fri Mar 04, 2005 7:47 am

The thread on the 1/16 Tiger made me look at other 1/16th kits out there.

There are two Trumpeter T-34 kits, a T-34/76 and a T-34/85. According to the reviews, they are very close to perfect, as far as being "in-scale".

Since the NVA used a few T-34s, I'm wondering if they would be too big to use in a Vietnam-era dio against my M-113s?

Any thoughts?

There would be a considerable difference in size. I could take a pic of my un-built T-34/85s hull with the turret set on top next to a M113. They may work if the T-34 is set back away from the M113. I could also take a pic of my 1/16 Tiger next to a 1/18 Tiger as a reference to the difference in scale. I must say the Trumpeter model is excellent and I look forward to building it.

For many the difference between 1/16 and 1/18 is too much. For others it doesn't bother them. It's about 11% larger. In human terms that's the difference between a 6 foot man and a 6 foot 8 inch man. Quite considerable.

It's really a shame because there are some nice 1/16 armour pieces around but they're just too big for my tastes. However, i think we'll be treated to some more 1/18 armour this year and i have a strong suspicion we'll see a T-34 eventually.
