Tko211 - SSHQ Group purchase?

Post by RAD 2112 » Tue Mar 04, 2008 1:50 pm

Tko211,
Nose art and paint schemes are what usually peak my interest.
I'm sure that's the case for most people on the board.
What would the possibility of having an SSHQ group purchase on a plane that you would not typically find in stores (ie. TRU, WM)?
Maybe we could lobby 21st Century for an online special... who knows?

I am very suprised that an "Old Crow" hasn't been made in either a P-51B or D. Is there a copyright issue?
If not, Maybe 21C would release that as a 2-pack online special. I would definitely be onboard for that.
Or a 2-pack Don Gentile of his Spitfire V and P-51D

On a side note I'd like to see a 2-pack of P-51D "Passion Wagon" and Chuck Weaver's P-51D. Both numbered G4-A.
The odds of those planes being made are very slim.

Anyway, I don't know if has been discussed before, but I thought I would ask.

Great idea! My guess there would have to be between 500 and 1000 orders to justify a $15-$25 price. Otherwise, who knows how high the price would be!!
Logistically, the method of getting payment from board members, without a retail outlet involved, would have to be overcome.
And then it comes down to what scheme or schemes to offer...everyone has an opinion...

Reminds me of the early days with the fan club exclusives. Too bad I didn't catch on to those soon enough. However, what is being said above is a good idea for both 1:32 and 1:18. 21c could get away with it more easily in 1:32, IMHO

A double "Old Crow" and "Glamorous Glennis" would be cool, or even a P-51/FW-190A or Bf-109G pairing.

Heck, I don't have any 1:32 planes (yet) but I would absolutely 100% be interested in buying SSHQ exclusives like that - even if I had to hide them from the wife!

I have wanted to do exactly this thing for years! In fact it's been almost 4 years since I have been part of AREA-21. The reality it that there is a MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) that has to be met in order to justify a run of a plane with new paint. (NOT a new plane all together) that MOQ would be much much higher. I am not sure exactly what the MOQ would be... depends on price a little too.

There is a slight chance that we might see an exclusive soon as there is a opportunity on the horizon that might play out. I can't say much more as it's still too early and it may not come together in the end. I don't want any broken hearts if it doesn't work out.

GREAT question though! As for Old Crow in a B model.... I suspect that one might be on the way in 32x sometime in the future. It's a popular plane! Right now Shang ra la is kinda of filling the bill as a similar scheme. Once that plane is all sold out (should be soon) then another all green P-51B (old crow) might be a strong contender. 21C really likes Bud Anderson.

The BCA blog states that where unique schemes had a MOQ of 2000 in the past, now the manufacturers are asking for 5000 (or 7000, can't recall) so it really makes future BCA exclusives unlikely.

My assumption is this is for 1/18 rather than 1/32.

My reason for asking is that 21C already has a solid base of planes to create online exclusives. (New Paint Schemes)

What better way to start than with an "Old Crow" exclusive and also celebrate the rebirth of 21C P-51D model.

If 21C comes out with an "Old Crow" B model, it would need invasion stripes.
...just my $0.02.

Just to let you know, I was really tempted to paint over my "Berlin Express" to "Old Crow".
