oh goody... :)

Gotta love these early arrivals. Makes you move your tail if you want to take advantage of the pre-order price though.

I cant wait for these figures. I'am a HUGE Marine fanatic, literally.(you should see my room :D ) Plan on enlisting after collage. My uncle was in the the Marines which is what caused me to study military history. I cant wait to get these. If they are good I'll most likely buy another set. As said before we need some Japanese! My Leathernecks are going to need some targets!(dreams of making a diorama with a massive banzai chage)

Take care
Joe

ToyFed orders have also shipped! Guess I was wrong with my assesment earlier today... I love it when these things come earlier than expected and cant wait for my little squad of Marines to arrive! Unfortunantly, it will be a longer than normal wait, considering the holiday weekend, but at least they're on their way.

Now for the new 32x vehicles!

can someone knowledgeable in Marine-lore answer a couple of questions for me.

The multi coloured camo uniforms (with splotches all over them) that some Marines wore. Were they just worn by special troops or were they generally distributed? I think it would be interesting to repaint a couple of figures that way.

Also, in most pictures i see of marines they are not wear their putties around their pant cuffs....so the pant cuffs just flop down on top of their boots. None of the 21c figures have this look, so i was thinking of modifying some of them with some sculpy. My question is: how common was it for Marines in the Pacific to wear their putties in combat? Would most Marines be seen wearing them or not wearing them?

To answer your questions Aferguson, the camouflaged were used often. After the Iwo Jima flag raising the American public knew they were Marines by these uniforms. Most men though did use the green standard uniform with a camo helemt cover. So what the 21Century guys have is pretty accurate. So in short they werent distibuted to one special group. The Marines used these uniforms in Korea too.(They should do repaints of that uniform, that would be sweet.)
As for the putties, from the photos Ive seen they were used only whe landing on the beaches to keep water out of their boots. But as they moved inland they were removed so they wouldnt bake in the heat. So if it was a beach assault they would most likely be wearing them but if it was inland you could get away without them.

Hope this helps
Joe

This is a little OT, but related to the Marines -

During WWII, most of the color film footage of combat and otherwise is of the US Marines in the latter half of the Pacific campaign. I just heard this the other day on the History Channel show, "The Color of War" and thought it interesting. It should provide plenty of reference opportunities for dioramas with these new figures!

Another fact about the Marines camouflage uniform that I picked up on Modern Marvels "camouflage" on the History Channel is that the color would fade to white with uses making them eazier to spot over time. It was something to do with the dye that was used. I would think that the colors on the camo uniform would be different from one another based on that, just something to think about when doing customs.

Thanks for the pictures. Now I'm even more excited these are on their way!! I'm glad they went with ultimately more subdued faces. Some expression is good, just not the permanent "blood-curdling scream" look.

Now, what is this about the XD Marine figures at TRU? You're sure they're not old Paratroopers brought from some dusty storage bin? I thought that store pushed out 21st? Perhaps TRU saw the success of XD at Wal Mart and the small retailers, and so is now deciding to get back in on the market, or maybe the Marines are packaged under the Mew Melinium Toys guise, and so 21st has snuck back onto TRU's shelves.

My Marine Figures arrived earlier today from the Toy Federation. Quite amazing as it only took two days using USPS from Florida to the Frozen Pacific Northwest.
First for all who are interested....YES the Japanese figures are shown on the back of the card, here they are:
Sgt Kudo wearing a Rising Sun headband
Pvt Higashiyama
Pvt Ekiguchi
Pvt Yamato
Lt Watanabe
Sgt Akamatsu
I am really pleased with these figures. They are so much better than their photos show.
Now I must get out the COED Sherman for them.
Got to go play now, hope you get yours soon.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Now I have ordered the Marines from the Toy Fed, via USPS as well. I'm in Los Angeles and have yet to see or hear anything (reasonably closer than where you're at in Washington). I'll be a little more worried come next week, however. Glad you got yours so quickly!

It must have hit everything right on this one! If it gets out of Seattle fairly quickly, I should normally get it in three days. This one must have went through Spokane and straight to Everett, where its trucked up immediately. I'm about 10 miles south of the Canadian Border. I'm sure you will see yours on Tuesday, since Monday is a holiday. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with these. I have been putting them together and the articulation is fantastic (compared with WWII figures). Some of the detail is quite good(on Machugh, you have the option to use a hand with a cigarette or one without. Nice touch.
On a lighter note, here I am working on Pacific Theatre Marines and its snowing like blazes outside now!!! Hope I don't have to re-dress these "Devil Dogs" and send them off to the Chosen Reservoir?

My Marines arrived from BC today - my USPS was delivered?
Anyway, the head sculpts are cool. Some guys have the 1000 yd. stare, some just look like someone you know - very nice overall.

Pilots still have the best articulation with thigh swivel, but these guys are up there. Also, it's good you only get one Tommy the Brit - he's got a grenade and he ain't lettin' go. With no extra arm that's it for him, unless you take someone else's arm

And the Japanese soldiers look awesome. :D There are a couple of guys that are so bada55...people will be buying them who don't collect military figures...

Any more news on Marines at TRU? Or what the prices and sku numbers? It is much eazier to find stuff at TRU with sku than at Wal-Mart, but you do have to talk to the right person. I did find the 21st C Modern line on Amazon.com, but no Marines.

If raiderad6 could get sku #s for them that would be cool. Thanks

I received the case of Marines from Toy Fed today. Real fast shipping, nice people. The figures are the best since the first series came out. Except for the two guys with the weird faces. The detail and paint are great. Really looking forward to the Japanese. If anyone is hanging back I suggest you order a case, you won't be disapointed. Regards....Bob

Are we sure he didn't see the bbi Marines at TRU?
While possible he saw 21st (I guess), it doesn't really "add up."

I just want to add my thoughts on the 21st Marines. Overall they are great but why give them all (except Zippie) a M1 Garand cartridge belt?
Bayo has the Grease gun, Alexander a Thompson and Tommy Brit a Carbine. WHY?? A couple Marines with pistol belts would be nice. It's a good thing 1/18 M1 Garands are available from other figures.

I'm just posting that I scanned a 21st Century Marine barcode at TRU and there was no data. I also scanned a barcode from the BBI Sherman and it registered for $39.99. I guess this means we can soon start hitting up
TRU for some Shermans. :D

Recieved my Marines from the Toy Federation yesterday!! I didn't order the 12-pack, just six of the individual figures. They are very impressive, and in my opinion, some of the best XD figures to date. The sculpting is wonderful and I love all the accessories. Having the packs, helmets, guns, pouches, etc. made the $7-$8 cost per figure truly worth it! Some of the smaller details, such as Lt. Anderson's and Sgt. MacHugh's cigarettes are very cool (not to condone smoking, but for accuracy purposes!) The facial expressions are good, and not too overdone - they give a sense of individuality to the figures. All in all, another great 21c product!
