well TKO's comments can only mean one thing; 21c will be coming out with an 88mm gun and 8 ton halftrack combo, the previously announced King Tiger and probably an XD Priest and maybe a separate 105mm gun.

(Note: it's really, reallly hot here......i may be suffering from heat stroke and as a consequence seeing xd oaisis's's)

After laughing I realized wait - they will come out with some of that stuff. Nobody else makes 1:18 armor so I understand why they are in no rush, but if there are gambling men around here I'm putting money on an M16, a Priest, an 88 and a KT all in due time. Takers? Key being due time.

I guess that is the key word....in due time.

Kind of like in the Spring of 2002, when 21C said the Avenger was "just around the corner". Turns out "in due time" turned out to be TWO YEARS.

Wait a minute, it's still not out  , oh well. in due time.

TTT.

Are we sure about Spring 02? Sounds like this tale is getting taller...

Anyhow, I guess that is why we have not heard much about new armor...it doesn't pay to talk about what's to come. :?

Oh, and I will wait 3 years for a T-34 if that's what it takes..so long as we get about 6-8 new pieces of armor between now and then. That's about how many planes we've seen since the Avenger announcement, no?

The Avenger was first announced in Feb of 2004 IIRC. Just seems longer.....well, i guess 2.4 years IS pretty long actually... :?

I think it will be a lot longer wait than 3 years for a 1/18 T-34, unfortunately.

sorry for the dose of reality but i think it's better to face things rather than to endlessly hope (which is what i've been doing for the past 5 1/2 years).

I have a feeling 21c views selling Russian tanks at WM would be like trying to sell ironing boards in a sports store. I suspect any future 1/18 armor we might see will be strictly US and German.*

I also get the feeling that the FOV 1/32 T-34's arent' selling all that well, as they seem to be the ones usually on sale and/or with lower bids on ebay. This will only reinforce 21c's (and other manufacturers) opinions of Russian armour.

There just arent' enough around of us enlightened collectors, with a strong sense of history.

Yea, the Avenger was announced two years ago, the "2002" in my message was in error but I had the "two years" right. And anyway, what's two years amomg friends

What did this thread start about anyway?

I'd love a T-34 but in WW2 the Ruskies were big believers in supporting their tanks with infantry, so where are our 1/18 Ruskie infantry?

We do have carded 1/18 Japanese infantry but nothing to suport them, how about a nice truck or light tank or tankette. A nice early '40's Ford 1 1/2 truck could serve a Japanese, Russian, American or German.

I know the Highway 61 Fords are around but the 1/16 size difference annoys me and anyway, I have two (Ford and Chevy) and they both have front axles that broke under the metal weight from just sitting on display.

there is a 1/18 1940 Ford tow truck available cheap....can't remember who makes it. But the cab and front end are very useful and with a bit of scratchbuilding you can make yourself all kinds of nice things.

I made one into a russian zis 6 truck (which was pretty much a copy of an earlier ford truck) and put some katyusha rails on the back. Looks not bad.

Welp, I could certainly use a Panzer III before a T-34, but that's just me. 8)

Then I guess my dream of a series consisting of tanks from the Six-Day War will only remain a dream.

Imagine....an Israeli Sh'ot (Centurion), dueling it out with an Egyptian T-62.....

dream on....

I would love a Panzer III as well but it is no comparison imo which we "need." We have a Panzer IV, V and VI, plus hanomag & kubel..time for something for them to fight.

As for IDF stuff - never. You will never see any Israeli Army anything unless a small retailer takes a big chance on an exclusive or you get a Soldier Force Merkava and put some effort into making it passable.

IDF? We already have IDF vehicles with very little mods.

The first tanks in the IDF were a couple of Panzer IV's, all you have to do is paint. The IDF used Shermans up till a few years ago....OK. OK, so they upgunned the Shermans, but they were our 21c Sherman, and since we gave 4,000 White half-tracks to the IDF, only a little mod in necessay which is the removal of the ring mount and add a .30 thru the windshield armor on the passenger seat, add radios and you have the IDF APC thru the Six Day War.

And by the way, the first planes in the IDF were......drumbeat pleaseee.......Me-109's. They were never PC. 8)

Gotta hand it to the IDF, they always used what was available.

Tank Choice

Post by 29thLetsGoJoe » Wed May 31, 2006 8:45 pm

I am a lurker here but decided to post because of the interesting topic. I choose British because there wasn't an American or German option. The German Nashorn Tank destroyer or JagdPanther would make me smile and the US Pershing or the small M3 stuart with 37 mm popgun would be nice. As for the IDF fans, you can use pretty much anything out there and get it right. I am always amazed at the variety of tanks and armour that shows up in wartime photos from the middle east. I am surprised we haven't seen the IDF using X-Wing fighters yet

Actually, I'm thinking about converting the M48 into a Syrian, or an IDF tank. The Syrians used some M48 with the 90mm gun, but most models were the 105mm up-gunned version. Same with the Israelis.

But I think it would be easier to convert the 1/16 T-34 to an Egyptian tank.
