Thats a decent find if you're just looking for a model. IMO, for a static model, its a bit pricey, but to each his own.
Yes, I understand the Midwest PT is R/C. I had one. The problem is that the thing has very poor running characteristics and requires an awful lot of work and money to correct. I got so frustrated with mine that I ended up selling it not long after I got her running up to par.
Another disturbing thing about this boat is its fit and finish overall. I have the 1/19 scale Midwest ARR USCG 47' MLB, (Also out of production for a few years now) and its fit and finish is superb. A far cry from what the PT boat has to offer. The 47' MLB is also a blast to run right out of the box. Very few mods are needed to create a show stopper that runs like a champ too. I have yet to figure out what happened to the QC dept. when the PT-109 was coming off the line.
Bottom line is if you don't have time to build a "close to 1/18 scale" PT then here is your answer. To say it is a "100% accurate rendition of JFK's boat" is a bit of a stretch. It is fairly close though.
If you are looking for a scale PT you can take to the local pond(Trust me, you need a pond, not a pool! The turning radius out of the box is horrible) and run, be prepared to drop some considerable coin to get her running as she should. Not to mention the time you will spend cursing as you try to figure it all out.

I have gotten some great deals that way, including my $45 "NIB 1/18 Lightening". Which turned out to be a Haleakala II P-38 when every other auction was ending at over $75 (you know, the good old days when they were cheap!).Razor17019 wrote:

I know what you mean. I love it when the seller has the spelling of the key word wrong (Soldeir, Utlimate, etc.) It's great till you boys find it too.FieroDude wrote:I have gotten some great deals that way, including my $45 "NIB 1/18 Lightening". Look at the other photo shots. Looks like someone is running a small-shop out of their bed room? I hope they report the extra $ to our friends at the IRS.

Check this out.... http://cgi.ebay.com/Miniature-1-6-scale ... dZViewItem
Pretty darn cool for the large scale collector. I don't collect 1/6th so I have no idea what this kind of thing usually sells for, but it seems like a pretty good deal.
