You must be shopping at the wrong Walmarts. Try ones close to colleges and universities--avoid those close to retirement communities ;)

Wow, another price cut at the local Wally. Atlantic Avengers are now $15.

Hey guys! I'm new to this forum, but some of you may recognize my tacky tagname from infrequent posts to the old GroundPounder's forum. I've been lurking around the new site for some time, enjoying the atmosphere and glad to see everyone's keeping the collecting spirit going. I'm keeping up with alot of the news you guys report and it helps alot. I hope I can contribute as well. 8)

I'm reading about the issues with erratic Walmart stocking for the Avenger and I'm afraid out here in Maryland I have to agree that it's the same: it's just not predictable. Maybe someone else knows an "in" or something that I don't, but I was keeping an eye open at the nearby 24Hr super Walmart for months and saw nothing. Then out of nowhere this last weekend I saw a grey TBF-1 Avenger on Clearance for $35. I got home with a big smile, only to open it up and find that somebody else had glued the right wing's folding mechanism shut and removed the torpedo and rockets, then taped the box shut again and returned it to the store. Ack! Nothing else seemed disturbed with the box or the plane itself, but I was plenty disturbed. It looked as though a previous customer broke a wing and did a very bad job with epoxy and brought it back to the store, minus the ordnance, to get promptly returned back to the shelf.
Well, it would normally be a simple matter of returning the whole thing to the store and getting a refund, but this was the last one on the shelf, and when I asked them to trace the UPC number on the receipt to see about a swap, they said nothing came up. There was zippo reading on their computer. The next UPC number up from there was for the German Starfighter. So, do UPC listings just go off the radar once they're in Clearance? Does this mean I'm outta luck to find a replacement Avenger? :(

Before I jumped on Ebay to spend twice the $$$ for another one I tried to contact 21st Century's Customer Service, because if the only thing wrong was the right wing and the missing ordnance, I would really hate to pass up on the chance to restore this to a complete and working model, and their website listed an option to contact them for possible replacement parts.
The gentleman I spoke to over the phone at 21st told me there was a chance they might have a replacement part for this, but not very likely. He did say, however, that a large resupply was either on its way to Walmart's distribution center or already there, and if I was patient I could just get a replacement plane from the store. But this counters the report from the store supervisor about not expecting anymore at all and that the computer had completely closed out that UPC listing. Not to mention, why would Walmart ask for restock on a Clearanced Item? Am I missing something here? Aside from a complete and working plane, I mean? I was hoping somebody here might've heard some more concrete news about whether more planes were really on the way or not.

Hi chaff, I remember you! I would suspect Wally will be getting the next series of Avengers which may have a different UPC? And we all know the Wally mangers aren't exactly a font of useful information. So I would think they will be re-stocked despite what anyone in the store might say.

With Wal Mart, you can never tell. It may be next week or it may be next year

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I suppose 21st's Customer Service would be more likely to have a vested interest in accurate information. Walmart... well, nothing against their employees but most times it appears to be a case of wearing blinders for anything outside of whatever shows on their computers, and it's just business, really.

And hey, Flayrah! I can't help but think you are right that they would have a new UPC for a new shipment of Avengers. But are we talking the same grey color scheme or the new ones? Unless they assign UPCs by waves, I suppose it's going to be the new color. But the guy at 21st did acknowledge the TBF with the grey scheme when I described it to him, I hope that was what he meant!

Unfortunately, tman, this is also true, I couldn't get an ETA from the dude at 21st, but my hazy memory recalls something about being within the next month or so. And again, it would still be out of their hands once Walmart received the shipment. :?

A new UPC code for the Avengers would signal a new wave, hopefully with new aircraft. The box for the Wal Mart release "Atlantic" Avengers (both origional and fixed) and those that went to the small retailers are the same. 21c won't necessairly change the UPC code for a particular aircraft unless they are in a seperate wave and the box is different. Take for example the fact that the UPC code on the S1 "Graff" Bf-109Gs, which came in the older blue 21c boxes, differs from that of the "Hackl," "Sahl," and "Seeman" 109Gs which came in the newer "green" 21c box. The same can also be said for the "USAF" and "Marinefleiger" F-104s that went to Wal Mart in different boxes as part of different waves...

I say - Give us some time between big planes -
Part of me says WM clearanced them fast because they already had the next wave ordered for 2007 and did not want the shelf space already cluttered with the first wave.

These Avengers are good sellers - - I remember seeing the first wave and kicking myself for not putting one on layaway - they were gone fast - next thing you know is there are 20 around Christmas -

I live within 5-30 minutes from about 10 WMs in the atlants area and only three of those WM's got the Avenger.....

What will kill WM in the future with the new paint schemes is everyone will sit on them because they/we are conditioned to wait for the price to go down -

so really catch 22 for everyone - we get the good price - but it hurts sells for future release....

I have one, but it didn't come with the alien - even though that's the one I ordered. Great looking plane, though, and the box artwork is nice!

The all black paint scheme makes the plane look a lot different from the Atlantic version it seems.
