Most of the Walmarts in my AO have had the 1/6 weapons packs for at least a few months, although I do find it ironic, since like you said: they don't sell 1/6 figures except some really cheesy knockoffs sold in big sets. However, the Benton Harbor WM started out with 4 overflowing pegs of weapons sets, and is down to less than a full peg. I only bought 2 sets to give my CG team some added firepower, so there must be some demand.Rowsdower wrote:On the other hand, two of the WalMarts have 3-4 pegs full of 1/6 scale weapon packs. Since they have never sold any 1/6 figures or gear before I have no idea where they came from.

And I apparently wiped out the local supply of the new figs--I stopped by the store where I got the last 4 on Tuesday, and no new stock has been put out. Then again, the shelves are pretty bare in general. On a side note, I noticed that the price small die-cast Titanium vehicles went up from $4.97 to $5.87 or so. I am hoping that isn't a sign of things to come.

Star Wars going up in price isn't a sign of things to come, it's the way of the hobby since about 2005 late, early 2006. Just been a nightmare. $7+ for any figure is a real rip... Original Hasbro apology-makers claimed it was oil prices, yet toys in general didn't go up in price, just HOT toys went up...
Other assumptions have been it's a non-movie year, which holds a little more water, but lots more than basic figures went up in price, which isn't the norm... A lot of it really (from what I get when I put my ear to the retail ground) is, simply, is that Star Wars has been one of the best selling toys, boys or girls, for two full years in a row. Three if you count the pretty high sales of 2004 as well... The Titaniums are a HOT HOT HOT line for Hasbro that is rumored to delve deep into non-movie stuff, and so I guess it was inevitable WM would jump on the bandwagon of retail rape.
Fortunately it's biting some of them in the ass dependant on the product... cheaper product tends not to see much of an effect, but the higher-ticket items like Battlepacks and specialty items are seeing more of a stalemate.
I think a price decrease could come should the line's popularity die down...
That's one thing I love about XD. You get pretty great quality for the price. I mean, a super articulated $5 figure with tons of crap, extra arms/hands/heads, extra coats and stuff... Not bad at all. $40 airplanes? $40 RC tanks that are really fantastic to play or display?
Only a couple XD things have felt like a rip... But man nothing beats a $30 halftrack with tons of extras and a figure. To me you cannot beat it with a stick.
Trust me, army building in Star Wars is a real, real pain. I'm noticing some interesting trends because of that too where army builder figures don't necessarilly fly off the pegs if they're not film-accurate. The current Clones I see more and more of on the pegs because they're not from the films. Interesting to see that reaction and I believe it's 90% from price.
