Post by der Vogelfänger » Sun Dec 10, 2006 2:36 pm

Thanks for all the great informationa and ideas on my "why 1/32" question of a few days ago! Now I have to ask "WHERE".....where should I purchase my 1/32 airplane(s) from, that is, who have you found who has the best prices and selection? Thanks for any tips, too!!!!!

Wal Mart has the best prices, but the selection & distribution may be crappy. Nationwide, there is currently a plethora of 21c 32x planes out: various A6M2 & A6M3 Zeros, Macchi 202s and 205s, the two dogfight packs (FW-190D & P-47; P-51 & ME-262) and there are the new Corsairs and Stukas, as well as a couple P-40s. The online retailers have everything but the 32x Corsairs and Stukas. These usually sell for about $16 and about $21 at the small retailers. Overall, 21c offers the most diverse selection of aircraft in 1:32.

As for other brands, the FOV planes are pretty decent and are diecast, though they cost nearly twice as much as the 21c aircraft. You can find those at TRU for about $30. TRU has the "action grade" versions of the P-51D and Spitfire. Online retailers carry the "enthusiast" versions of the same planes, plus an ME-109G.

If you want to spend a little more, Corgi also offers several aircraft in 1:32. These come in a variety of paintschemes and are avaliable at many small retailers. The Corgi 1:32 planes consist of a P-51D, Spitfire, Hurricane, ME-109G and DH Mosquito. The smaller planes retail in the $60-$80 range with the Mosquito going for between $100 and $150.

GMP diecast also makes a couple 1:32 planes (a P-40 and P-51) that are the best detailed in this scale, though they come at a price of around $130-$150.

Again, alot of these prices are relative. You can always find some pretty good deals depending on where and when you look. (I've seen Corgi Mosquitos sell for $50 on ebay before). There are alot of small retailers that sell the 1:32 planes from various companies along with the larger and smaller scales.

Hope all this helps!

Why and Where ?

>>> "Where else" ,... Wal-Mart ! ... For best prices that is ,... selection ,.. spotty. Depending on which W-M you visit in your area ,.. but if you're lookin' to get some of the (older) or previous releases too ,.. then you'll have to deal with on-line prices and selection. Depends on what exactly you are looking for. ... I'd start with Wal-Mart first ,.. then you could always check out "BadCat". They still have some of the earlier ones. ... It's totally up to you Jim. +

Corgi has an awesome 1/32 line of diecast, however they're getting kind of pricey since the announcement they won't be producing them for the forseeable future. Better get while the gettin's still somewhat affordable.
