First of all Xtreme Detail is a slogan and like many slogans cannot be taken 100% literally and secondly, for Toys, these ARE extremely detailed. Anyone who doesn't think so should check out the latest gi joe, Corps, power team, chap mei etc. for comparison.

That's what I was going to say... Even some of the more detailed Joe vehicles from the '80s (the Defiant shuttle comes to mind) do not compare to a 21c plane! I mean, look at the cockpit of even the S1 ME-109E - there's the painted instruments, gunsight, control stick, throtle, rudder pedals, trimwheel, painted radio controls and more! Then there's an accurate-looking pilot figure to go in the cockpit. The armor - especially the halftracks, M-41 and Tiger tanks - are also a similar story. Who would have thought of ever giving a toy tank a full interior with seat and gun detail? Given the level of detail and functionality that are present in every 21c piece, its a wonder we aren't paying twice as much for them!

Thats what makes this hobby great...They may not be museum quality replicas when you bring them home, but with some work they CAN DEFINITELY be turned into museum quality replicas.
The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.

Not sure. I don't have newer Avenger so just don't know if the covers are on the underside as well. Though if I had to guess I would say that yes.

As for Xtreme Detail... Let me say this with complete confidence! The 21st Century Toys Avenger in 1:18 scale is by far and away the MOST detailed 1:18 scale Avenger on the market! :D....

If anyone has any problems with it I would highly recommend buying the 1:18 Avenger built by the other companies.... Oh yeah, there aren't any! 21st is the only one who has done it. I guess there is always that 1:32 scale model kit by trumpeter which costs 120.00 bucks minus the paint & assembly.

I think I will stick with my 70.00 Avenger. It's bigger, has moving parts, goes great with the rest of my 1:18 scale collection and looks better than any model I could build with the limited time and skill that I have!

just my 2 cents!

Wait- I forgot there is another company that builds a 1:18 scale Avenger! I think they are called Fine Art Models or something like that? I thought the price on it was several THOUSAND dollars? I know it had more detail... but that that price it should!!!!!

I don't know fellas the more research I do the more I think that 70.00 is a steal for this big naval beast!

When I first started this thread, it was with the intentions of letting people know that the BCA version was not much different from the WM version (with, of coarse, the exception of pitot and screw caps). Since then I've adopted a "sit back and watch" attitude...until now. I have not and never will be a 21C basher...quite the opposite. I started collecting 1/6th 21C a long time ago (and wish they would return in earnest again) and have enjoyed their offerings many many times. I patiently (most of the time) waited while developmental problems (among others) delayed the Avenger since its announcement some three years ago. I own two of them (and plan on more) and I won't give either up. No matter what you have paid for them, you must have valued them that much when you first bought them (nobody held a gun to your head and forced you...did they?) and if you value them less now...there's alot of people out there seeking desperately. I bet somebody would take it off your hands! As for the detail...very exciting starting point (for me) with massive (all puns intended) potential for super detailing. Just check the "Mods" area, you'll get the idea. I can handle the bi-folding doors on the bomb bay, and the radio compartment. At the least, I'm gratefull for the Avenger as is...at the price as is....I think its a great buy. So...to the 21C supporters out there, I'm with you brothers....but to the detractors, it you thing the Avenger is "broken" FIX IT.....and put your mods on the "Mods" area for the rest of us. All I asked for was a good start, and 21C gave it to us all. Thank you guys (and girls!)....you keep making them and I'll keep buying them. Now can we go back to scale modeling.....please?

A long time ago guy's I was one of those "21st bashers" and then they won me over with their new tooled Mustang release and their Bunker Hill Corsair and their Spitfire. I learned so they (21st) are alright by me as long as they deliever my Victory Mustang to me  . As for the Avenger? If anyone is unhappy with theirs then hell send it to me and I will take good care of it!!! I will even make the mods to it to make it better then it already is. I have still yet to see one at any of my local Wally Marts so some of you guys are lucky just to have one, so quit bitching. Like tko said their is another company who makes a 1/18th Avenger and if you want it you better get ready to sell your house to get it or there is Trumpeter models who makes a 1/32nd Avenger that sells in my area for $135.00! And thats a model you have to build, paint ect... But for that cost you can buy 2 21st Avengers that are in my book very very nice. So for those complaining about the Avenger I say be thankful you have one because I wish I did. You dont want it? Send it to me, I'll take it off your hands.
