Question on scale????? A little help from the collectors.

Post by jrs » Wed Jan 05, 2005 4:56 pm

Hi all finally I am able to post. I look forward to contributing!

Anyway, I am collecting just the 1:32 and only WWII. Mostly 21st century and FOV. I also have a lot of the Conte stuff. Question is on figures! 21st Century has a smaller figure compared to say Conte. If Contes troops and 21st are both 1:32 Contes guys are all 6.5" and 255 pds! Oh ya the question?

Are the Arifix figures close to Contes or would they be smaller say like Marx etc?

I have read that the Conte figure is considered a full figure mold? Anyone have any idea if they are 1:32?

Thanks for any replies.

figures...

yes the Conte figures are slightly larger than "traditional" 54mm (1/32nd scale. The excellent King and Country figures have a different scale also, about 1/30th. The plastic Marines and Japanese by BMC are made from K&C masters and are large also.

I have used a number of plastic and metal figures and generally the following are pretty interchangeable: Airfix soft plastic, Airfix multipose, Revell/Germany (marked as 1/35 on the box, the soft plastic Afrika Korps and 8th Army fit right in with Airfix), 21st Century and ESCI soft plastic (I think out of production but available). I use parts from Airfix multipose to redetail my 21C GI's and everything fits well.

Marx figures vary a little, and are usually a hair taller and "thicker" than 21C, but they look OK tgether when painted up and placed together, the earlier "Marines" being slightly chunkier than the later "GIs". Most of the tank crews from FoV are also slightly larger than the 21C figures, but don't look too bad. The infantry seem about the same size as Conte, but nowhere near as nice. If the get rid of the "Popeye" forearms and huge hands they could have some decent figures.

Hope this helps a little.

I use all the FOV and 21st with my Conte plastic. What I did, even tho the figures are smaller than Contes. I painted the vehicle crews for FOV & 21st a solid color. Gray for Germans & olive drab for the GI,s. When the figures are in their vehicles the size difference dosen,t show much.
I,ve also cut the stands and part of their legs off off Marx Germans, the binocular and soft hat officer figures. They then fit into the hatches of the tanks, etc.
