Help with boil & pop

Post by spect_spidey » Sun Apr 02, 2006 10:03 pm

I am looking to do some custom figures, but I have only ever done customs using G.I. Joe figures. Can anyone out there give me detailed instructions on exactly how to do the boil and pop with the XD figures? I want to make sure I do it correctly. I have a limited budget and very few multiples of some of these figures so I really don't want to mess any of them up by breaking any of them.

Boil a small pot of water...close to a boil is good enough.
Depending on the figure, it will take 2 seconds to a minute to loosen up. Some parts, like thighs/shoulders, may need more time to loosen than perhaps elbow, knee - head is the most variable between companies/lines/waves/eras..

You will know soon enough if a part should not come apart - like some waists on 21st figures from what I can tell. New bbi guys swap easy as could be in all places. If you do not want to loosen the legs but want to swap heads, bend the figure at the knee and "hang" him from the side of the pot so just his shoulders and above are submerged. Remember cold can reverse the "softness," so if you are trying to put a new head on a body perhaps stick the head in the freezer for a minute so the neck is sturdy. Good luck - share the results.

PS - be ready with boxcutter or Xacto in case your neck "bulb" needs a trim.
