Completed: Hobby Boss 1/18 FW-190A-8 Kit
Just thought I'd share some pics of the Hobby Boss 1/18 Scale FW-190A-8 kit I recently completed. The aircraft is in the livery of Hans Dortenmann's FW-190A-8, "Hascherl I/Rot Ein" which he flew while Staffelkapitän of 2./JG 54 in June 1944 in the Normandy region of France. This aircraft was shot down over Paris on June 26.
Overall, the kit was near-identical to the Hobby Boss FW-190A-5 though it has some new retoolings and a few inaccuracies. The blown canopy is incorrect for Dortenmann's FW-190A-8 (which had the standard flat-back design) but was the only part available in the kit. The antennas on the underside and step-ladder are custom parts as they did not come with the kit. The model has been painted entirely with the new Mission Models acrylic Luftwaffe shades and clear coatings. Weathering used a mixture of sludge washes and Tamiya weathering powders. The Mission Models paints are EXCELLENT and if you haven't tried them yet, I highly recommend giving the paints a try!
I've included some pics below, though I must apologize for the less than ideal lighting... Enjoy
I tried some diorama pics to replicate the historical photos of the actual plane. Another time I will need to find some foliage to simulate the trees and make a more accurate diorama...

Re: Completed: Hobby Boss 1/18 FW-190A-8 Kit
Thank you everyone for the kind comments! I really appreciate it and am glad you all enjoy the model
Funny story with is that this was my second FW-190A8 kit, a redo from an initial effort I started last fall... The original build was more trouble-prone for some reason and I had issues with the paint blistering under a large and prominent decal! I have never had that happen before with acrylic paints... Frustrated, I went and bought another kit and the second time I used one brand of primer, paint, and clear coats throughout (the new Mission Models paints in this case). It was an expensive lesson, but the original kit still found a second life as a “paint mule” to test some weathering and painting techniques. The second model obviously went a lot better

Dortenmann Combo 21st Century Toys XD FW-190D-9 in Hans Dortenmann’s “Black 1” livery with my Hobby Boss model of his earlier FW-190A-8 mount. Dortenmann recorded 18 victories with this FW-190D-9 making him the most successful fighter pilot with that type. He flew the same aircraft (W.Nr. 210003) from September 1944 to April 1945 in both JG-26 and JG-54. Placing these models next to one another really shows off the age and simplicity of the 21st model...

Great display! Did he survive the war?
Those Marauder Task Force figures will have the same contrasting effect when mixed with 21st C figures
Have my eye on the replacement white metal gear for the HobbyBoss FW 190's as a fix for the 21st C Doras.

Also, just got another Squadron catalog and was surprised to see the A-5 back in it. The online and paper catalog never seem to be on the same "page".

Axis, yes, Dortenmann survived the war and died in 1973. With 38 kills to his credit, he was hardly the highest-scoring German ace, but still had a respectable record and scored the most kills of any German pilot flying the FW-190D-9. He was never shot down while flying the Dora and flew the same aircraft from September 1944 until May 1945, when he personally destroyed it prior to surrendering to the British.
Here’s a nice little biography: https://www.luftwaffe.cz/dortenmann.html

The display base make these planes stand out and the Pickelhaube Kubelwagen Cover
adds to a very nice diorama!
