1/18th Jagdtiger Re-Vamp In Progress
Hey Guys,
So far I have about 3 days on the Jagdtiger conversion and it is a slow go.
I am doing more altered remakes than building
I do have:
Main hull box built w/dove tails
Mantlet 90 %
front gun mount 90%
I stretched the upper hull 20 millimeters. Actual measurement should be 22.22 millimeters.
22 millimeters is close enough. 22 mils is a tiny bit short of 7/8 th's of an inch.
When scaling things it is so much easier using the metric system.
I will make the splice and mould / pour it to go with the kit.
For you guys who are actually buying the Jagd should I cut and splice together the parts or can you modelers do it ?
The alteration is somewhat easy
1. Cut upper hull across the center of the turret ring.
2. Add 22mil stretcher splice ( supplied in the kit )
3. Cut the sides and add 22 mill stretcher splice ( supplied in kit )
4. Add the 22 mil stretcher to the back of the floor piece.
I will try to add pics but last time I tried I had problems. Photobucket changed their format and I could not down load pics
I added another post because the Tiger II post was getting long in the tooth.
Please do not forget to add thoughts on the splitting hull situation.

Hey Pickel, hop you had a great Christmas.
As far as the kit goes, my order is correct (1 kit).
I would be fine with cutting and splicing the in the added pieces.
Where do you intend to make the cut in the chassis "3. Cut floor and sides".?
In-front of the rear idler/return wheel?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Pickle. Confirm my order is for 1 Jagdtiger as well. - I actually would prefer if you cut and spliced together the parts. Not that I couldn't do it, I just feel like there could be opportunity for disaster cutting that much and splicing together my self. - Also think it would make the build a bit easier on the less experienced guys.

Look at the gap between the rear ideler and last bogie wheel in the drawing.
It is relatively big. The Tiger II gap is almost none existing.

Re: 1/18th Jagdtiger Started !! ( Input Needed )
Update again semi moving in the wrong direction.
I finished off the dove tails then looked at some reference pics. I made the dove tails with the ends of the teeth torch cut. The refference pics that I looked at looked to be like the teeth were welded and the ends of the teeth were machined smooth. So I covered them up with putty.
Then I looked at some other ref pics and they looked like what I had originally done.
DOOH !!!!!!!
So they were done both ways .
But .......
I have the barrel rolled and prime painted. I just need to make the little flaired piece that goes into the mantlet.
I have engineered the gun travel so you get up down and side ways.
It took a full 8 hrs to figure that out.
I will try and post some pics hopefully I can re - figure out how to do it.
If not I need to pull my nephew back in.

Re: 1/18th Jagdtiger Started !! ( Input Needed )
I realize that this post is kind of sad because of no pics but progress is in the works.
I have almost 80 % of all the parts made for the top of the fighting box.
But I am reworking the box for a third time.
The last humbug was that I got the chamfer wrong on the long sides
I am almost done . Now I need to rescribe the lines on top and do the bolt down circles around the top.

Re: 1/18th Jagdtiger Started !! ( Input Needed )
Hey Guys ,
Hopefully I will have the prototype done on Sunday.
I am hoping to have some pics up as well.
I was thinking ....to modify the Tiger II to the Jagdtiger kit will take probably 3-4 hours.
That is to cut the parts up and glue them back together. NOT ASSEMBLING THE HULLS JUST MAKING THE NEEDED STRETCH MODIFICATION.
Be honest... is this fair or should the mod be done @ the original cost.
I can always just supply the parts needed and mark the pieces were they need to be cut.
Please give a honest answer on this and what ever the general consensus is , I will do just that.

Re: 1/18th Jagdtiger - Input Needed! ( To Cut Or Not To Cut
Just wanted to confirm my Jadgtiger. To save you time and cost I don't have a problem with cutting the body and regluing it muyself. I do have some questions though. Is resin hard to cut ? Is it britel(sp)? Does the glued area need to be reinforced and how ?

Re: 1/18th Jagdtiger - Input Needed! ( To Cut Or Not To Cut
I will be honest have never had a lot of luck with drilling or the cutting of the resin. I feel it just gets too brittle and half the time I end up trying to repair it or "make it work" . I would prefer it pre done (model building time for me comes in to play as well, I'm only about 1/4 way into the king tiger just as a matter of having the time to spend and the prospect of cutting, expanding, filling and sanding big areas on the Jagdtiger just isn't a happy thought ) - but I guess it will be the will of the masses, so I am just adding my 2 cents.

Re: 1/18th Jagdtiger Started !! ( Input Needed )
Finally some pics.
[/quote]
Well I did not finish
It will probably be another 2 days and hopefully the proto will be a wrap.
I made the extension pieces and it was actually easy to cut and modify. I simply added to the floor ( no cutting ) and I made a straight cut up from the floor piece to the sides.
The top hull and the bottom hull fit like a glove.
I have the barrel almost 99% done but I had some red spot putty on it so I did not take pics .
Still need to
make barrel travel lock
make vision blocks under the protectors.
put the apparatus on the dome piece next to the pistol port.
make handles
MAKE MOULDS.

Thanks guys !!
Yes there is a lot going on, on top of the fighting compartment and there is more that needs to be done.
Thanks for the link J new . That rangefinder towards the middle I had a hard time getting pics of what it looks like and now I know !!!
I will work on the proto this weekend and hopefully I can get geared up to make the moulds of it.

Here we go more progress. Here is the 22mil. add - on cut straight up from the floor piece.
Floor piece
The center ventilator needs to be cut off and moved to the left handed side. I will make this piece because you will destroy it in the removal.
4 track links need to be added to each side to accommodate the stretch.
Barrol fitted now it looks like a Jagdtiger !!
Here is the relocated ventilator.
A little more detail on the rear doors. I have the handles way too thick I need to make them thinner.

The tank came out really good as always.
I"m curious how it will look next to a Tiger 1 or a Sherman.
