Just Fantastic I've always liked the Luft'46 aircraft.

Five hours of applying panel line tape and a few coats of primer. Couple days I'll sand it down and pull the tape. Next will be constructing the canopy. Then I'm at the point to mold. I'll throw up some pics when the tape comes off.

It looks great !!!
It looks like raised panel lines is this the tape of which you speak ?
Raised panel lines are tough to work with.
OK I reread your post.
Man that was a lot of work. Wouldn't been easier scribing the panel lines ?

Re: 1/18 FW TA-183 Huckebein?
Stuck in the house for a couple days. -45 wind chill and 10" of snow. Perfect time to stay inside.
Decided to pull the panel line tape off and see how she went. I'm happy with the results. Nice even panel lines about 1/32" deep. Put some gun ports on the nose. Only thing left is the canopy before molding.
I've scribed lines on models for years, but always managed to slip and go off track. Using the tape allowed me to get consistent lines without slipping. Not to bad.
I'm working with another board member to 3d print the landing gear and wheels. That will save me bunch of time. After molding I can begin working on the cockpit, engine compartment and exhaust.

This is fantastic work. I don't have room for 1:18 but will get this one when your're finished.
Are you going to sell it as kit only or pre-assembled & pre-painted plane or both ?
I'm starting to save money now.

Re: 1/18 FW TA-183 Huckebein?
I'll keep an eye out for the package Matt. Thank You.
I get to work on this as time permits. Don't hold me to this, but I would like to have something to offer in the next six months. Seams like a long time, but this is a one man show and a learning experience at the same time.
I was able to get some work done on the canopy. Not enough to bore you with pictures.
I'm purchasing the molding material as funds permit. Hopefully there will be molds to show you by the end of February.

Re: 1/18 FW TA-183 Huckebein?
Sorry guys, No updates. Stupid cold has shut down all work in the shop. Propane prices are over $5. I can't afford to heat. Weather guy is calling for mid 50's later next week. WooHoo, we'll see how that goes. 13" of snow in the past week on top of the 12" the week before. I haven't seen this much snow since 78'.
Doing research and ordering product, so when it does warm up I can get moving.

Yep, winter temps can really bring things to a halt, wanted to paint my T-34 but it was 17 this AM.
Just a little to cool in the shop.
Nathan, here's a pic from Luft'46 I thought was fitting for today.....
Oh, I have a book on the blizzard of '79, my brother sent me that year....he's in Chicago.
Hopefully next week brings milder temperatures.

Re: 1/18 FW TA-183 Huckebein?
I got the left wing molded over the last couple days. I think they turned out pretty well. I'll mold the right wing in the coming week and then tackle the fuselage. The surface coat picked up more detail than I though it would. After the molds are done, I'll layup parts.
I have the canopy frame complete and the plug for the glass. I can probably get started on the silicone molds for the canopy and horizontal stabilizer.
Jay has worked his magic and was able to get the landing gear done in 3D. A little tweaking on the size and we can try some 3D printing.
I know it's not allot, but we're getting there. Hope to have more soon.

Re: 1/18 FW TA-183 Huckebein?
You are going to cast the glass canopy with clear resin ?
I have never had success with that.
Make sure you have a plan B.
BTW
This is looking great !!!!!

Thanks Matthew.

Sorry for confusion. I made a plug to vacuum form the canopy glass to insert into the canopy frame. I made a small recess around the canopy to place the glass. I'm going to cast the canopy frame in high impact resin.
