A Gaso.Line-Solido Merkava Arrives

Post by Epap » Thu Jan 31, 2013 8:10 am

While I have many 1:72nd scale armor models plus others in the 1:30-1:35th scale range, my favorites are those in the middle of the spectrum---approximately 1:48-1:50th-----as these are large enough to show a good deal of detail, but not so large that they crowd everything else off my display shelves. One of my primary sources comes from the Gaso.Line-Solido genre. Many of these are simply pre-built from plastic kits, however, a good many are hybrids created by taking an old Solido chassis and slipping a pre-made plastic upper surface, turret, etc. over it so only the original road wheels and tracks are visible. My latest addition is a Merkava tank. Here's a picture:Image

For those who might be interested, here are pictures of similar Gaso.Line-Solido models for AFVs of other countries. First, a couple of British entries:Image

Thanks, LIS.

I get many on eBay where several sellers specialize in selling this sort of thing in the Solido listings. Also, there's a French online store---Quarter-kit-----that I often use. They list several brands---like Master Fighter-----as well as Solido, Verem and Gaso.Line in the "collector's models" section. As to price, I would say that about $100-120 is the norm, though I have spent more for really unusual items.

If you count FOV as well as King & Country, The Collector's Showcase and Figarti, quite a few AFVs are available in the 1:30-1:35th scale range. Among the more unusual items are Figarti's Stuart and Type 95 tank, King & Country's Char B and FOV's Matilda and KV 1. A new high price niche manufacturer, John Jenkins Designs, is offering three outstanding 1:30th scale replicas of tanks that fought in the Spanish Civil War, including a T-26 ( see picture, below ):Image
