A BE-12 Arrives

Post by Epap » Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:06 am

The latest in the DeAgostini publisher subscription series featuring Soviet aircraft is the BE-12 maritime reconnaissance bomber----a turbo-prop version of the BE-6, which entered service in the early 1960s. The model seems to be in the 1:200th scale and, despite a few missing parts like its pitot heads, it isn't a bad little replica. Here are some pictures with small upgrades to the paint job and some staining added. First, a topside view:Image

Looks awesome!
Do you have another 1/200 model to compare it to?
A helicopter does not want to fly, it just vibrates so much that the ground rejects it

Thanks THP.

Most of my other models of the "unusual subject" type are in the 1:120th-1:144th scale range, I'm afraid.

i gather some of these deagostini's have nothing to do with Atlas as the quality seems better and there is no undercarriage at all.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

It's an entirely new line, not in any way related to the old Atlas series, AF. The quality does vary, I'm sorry to say, with a decent DB3F, a fair TU-2 and the BE-12 offset by a poor IL-4 and a badly painted PE-2 which has a flat tailplane. Some of the jets are interesting----for example, the TU-28, SU-9 and Mig-19---but then they botched the Mig 17. If you like the IL-2, this line features a mediocre two-seater and rather nice one-seater version in approximately the 1:100th scale.

That's cool looking.

Sort of reminiscent of the giant Soviet Ekranoplan.

so Epap, are there going to be any new Altaya type offerings coming this year....either in 1/72 or 1/144? I'm not familiar with how often there are new subscriptions.

The only info I have on that is that Altaya was reportedly testing a re-release of its hideously assembled and painted 1:72nd scale bi-plane line featuring planes like the I-15, Fiat CR.32, HS-123, etc. but with far improved quality. I haven't heard anything more but I hope they decide to give this line another try.

That would be cool, I'd get one of each..
