Corgi 1/48 UH-1 gunship?
Corgi 1/48 UH-1 gunship?
Can anyone verify this Corgi "Unsung Heroes" series 1/48 UH-1C gunship's weapons payload is accurate?
My research shows the M5 nose grenade launcher and M16 machine gun/rocket launcher system were never used in combat at the same time.

Corgi's pamphlet says each "Unsung Hero" Series model is based on "actual photographs and personal accounts"---so does anyone have this Huey model's pamphlet which may confirm this model actually saw combat.

THE_HELICOPTER_PILOT.
Thanks for the reply.
My research on this gunship payload found the topic had been discussed on another message board. The conclusion was that one UH-1C prototype was armed with a nose-mounted grenade launcher, two rocket pods on each side and two pylon-mounted M60 machine guns on each side. Someone posted a photo of the prototype in the US. No one could find any proof that this gunship ever saw combat in Vietnam.
Consequently, I bought another Corgi UH-1 gunship with two rocket pods and two M60 door guns. I would have bought the other, more heavily-armed gunship if I knew it actually saw combat. I don't have any proof that it did or didn't see combat.
Below is a chart of UH-1 gunship payloads:

THE_HELICOPTER_PILOT,
Thanks. Unfortunately, I already received the other Huey gunship the other day--it's in front of my pc right now. I wished I had known about the other gunship being real because that's the one I really wanted.

You think you could post some detail photos of it so I could get a good look at it? I've been really thinking about getting one of these bad boys.

You know I like the one you got though if it were me I'd probably remove the rockets lol but I don't to much agree with what they did with the windscreen on the other one...

This is a Corgi USMC Huey I got a long time ago. The windshield weathering isn't obvious in the Flyingmule photos, but it looks good in person.

As for the other Huey I just got, I'm happy with it because it's a 1st Cavalry gunship, which is what I was looking for, and it has the same payload as an Aurora 1/48 Huey gunship I had when I was a kid (but the Aurora came with 4 crew figures).
I've got three Corgi 1/72 helicopters (ACH-47 Chinook "Easy Money" gunship, SH-3 Sea King "Chink 69" and USCG HH-60)----all three include pilots, but not on the larger 1/48 Hueys.
Something really cool on the ACH-47 is you can open the cargo ramp door and inside is a gunner with a 50 cal. machine gun to fire out the rear.

Re: Corgi 1/48 UH-1 gunship?
Ehhh what's with those pods?... Not to sure with that and yes the 1st cav hueys are my top as well and I'm not quite familiar with Aurora models... When it come to this scale it was always the revell models but sense I have to many NIB models already and no time dicast is the way to go... Lol
