My first customized piece!

With a free day, I decided to give my visually-lacking Power Team Elite M151 'Mutt' a make over. Five hours later, she was done and I am pretty happy with myself.

The general aim of this project was to convert the plastic looking toy into a 1:18 version that a hot-rod enthusiast drove around Vietnam, and 'accidentally' went through one-too many mud pits.

I used exclusively paint brushes for this model.

Paints used:
Tamiya Olive Drab (Body)
Vallejo Khaki (Seats)
Tamiya Black (M60, grill, dashboard, radio)
Tamiya Silver (M60 and Radio highlights)

The jeep was weathered with Tamiya Red Brown to simulate dried mud and Woodland Scenics Raw umber mixed with baking powder for fresh mud.

The M60. To make this, I used the PTE version as the base, the bipod from the 21st 'Six Pack' figure, and the ammo bag from Marauder Gun Runner's M60E3.

And TTT, if I got something wrong about the jeep, I apologize but I won't change the model to make it accurate - I don't want to risk ruining my first project!

Looks good to me.

But the tires are a bit shiny. Maybe a shot of dull coat clear on them if you can ?

The tires are their original rubber colour. I masked them off during painting, then forgot to take off the masks until the whole thing was weathered, and then my paints weren't drying all that well on the rubber. Thanks for your suggestion, I will definitly spray the wheels to make them less 'pretty'.

The Olive drab paint from the seats has also enroached onto the khaki portions and will also be redone.

Zelda, next would be either the PTE Little Bird or 21st M3A3 halftrack.

That PTE M151 Mutt came out looking really good!

I've thought about doing something similar with the one that comes in the new PTE set with the WWII trailer, but haven't gotten around to picking up the set yet. It is a cheap vehicle compared to the excellent 21c version, but great to see that with a little work it fixes up nicely and can fit right in.

When I've thought about doing this, I've toyed with the idea of using some clear plastic styrene in the windshield (it could even come from the box window the vehicle comes in) but I haven't gotten that far yet

Thanks for your comments guys! Tman, I also spent quite a while looking for a material to use as a windshield, but nothing looked quite right.

Progress report:
Seats have been repainted
Dull coat has been added
Ammo bag for the M60 has been repainted to enhance the details
M3A3 is getting prepped. What colours should I use in the mud to make it look like it is in Normandy?
