McCluskey Dauntless paint

Post by zzzippper » Sat Aug 28, 2010 9:30 pm

I just noticed today that in the center of the star national insignia you can see where they painted over the red meatball. This is not a complaint, I think it is how the would have appeared after being painted over following the Coral Sea.

One question though. On mine, the antenna on the engine cowling leans inward toward the centerline of the AC. Is that correct?

Hi Zzzippper...yes that is exactly what the USN did with all Coral Sea aircraft...paint over the red meatball. HM did a very good job capturing it.

As for the antenna mast, yes it should not lean to center…I sanded a wee bit of the antenna base side and with a bit of CA, glued it in the slot with a little of the L base out and not pushed in all the way. For good reference I use Rojas Bazan’s site…he has great pictures of the SBD he built and backed by outstanding research.

The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.
