Picked up on a rumored Atlas Ar-196A Diecast 1/72..any truth
Is there any truth to this?? I'd like to hope so since I collect Arado planes for some reason, models, prints, books and misc stuff.

I'm probably the one that let the word out on the Arado. A member of the Diecast Aviation Forum ( DAF ) got in touch with Atlas in response to a query of mine and got a listing in reply that included a Swordfish and Arado 196 pairing. Also, eight other pairs---Atlas offers its models in two-plane sets----have not yet been identified and may include a Fiesler Storch, which would be another unusual diecast item.
The 1:144th scale Atlas bomber line is very dated and of poor quality, compared to the recent IXO series in a similar vein.Panzer_M wrote:where will you be able to buy these set. I take Euro Markets or UK?
I've looked at 1/144 Atlas stuff, but not their 1/72.
Regarding the current Atlas 1:72nd scale line, the quality varies a lot between models. For example, the Tony, Mosquito and DO-335, which I have, are passable, though I had to repaint two of them and make other mods. The LA-7 also is OK, though hardly great. On the other hand, their FW-190A, is only on a par with the Corgi Warbirds---hardly a top notch model---and their MC-202 was an abomination. From pictures I've seen, the Atlas BF-109E, Spitfire MK I and Hurricane are not really very impressive and the BF-110 is lacking its nose guns. So be very careful if you decide to buy these models. I search for "Atlas diecast aircraft" on eBay/uk, in the diecast toys/hobbies section and that's where I have found the models so far.
I haven't seen any, and even when one of these model pairings appears in the eBay listings, the pictures are usually pretty bad. You have to take pot luck or wait until some nut---like me----buys one and posts comments/pics, etc.Panzer_M wrote:Are there any images of this Ar 196 floating around the net?
