Anyone have history/background on the S1 Stuka?
I just managed to find and win an S1 Stuka on EvilBay. It was for a great price and I was suprised to win it. However, I was looking for any background info on the plane. Anyone have any information?
Thanks for the help in advance.

"I can stop collecting 1:18 scale anytime, really I can. OOoh, the new Stuka re-paint! I don't have that one.

S1 stuka's A5+CH markings never existed in that unit.aferguson wrote:the s1 stuka was from a unit fighting in Poland in 1939.
The S1 mustang is Lou IV, seen in many famous colour pics.
The S1 Tiger was from a unit outside Lenningrad in 1942.
The S1 Mustang is that blue-nosed Mustang with a nose art of a woman's name that was allegedly associated with 21st. "Laura Mitchell"
The 21st Grey Tiger I is a hodgepodge of markings. The Schere Panzer Abteilung 502nd has the Mammoth marking, but never had those tactical numbers, painted that way, or in that position.
You can tell which unit a Tiger tank belonged to by looking at it's tactical numbers. Each unit has a very unique way of numbering their tanks.
the S1 Mustang was Lou IV.......the blue nose came out later and was bogus but i think it was S3, i believe there was another one in between. Anyway Lou IV was definitely S1.
I can't comment on the stuka but i was under the impression it's an actual aircraft.....Teamski may have a picture of it in his website.
I thought someone years ago posted a picture of the actual grey Tiger that 21c made theres from.....anyone still have it?

I looked right away at Teamski's profiles, but there wasnt one for the S1 Stuka. Only the winter one, the scottie dog one and one of the desert ones I believe.
His site is defininitely good for updating logs and for further research.

Yes, the Lou IV was S1, Big Beautiful Doll was S2, and blue nose "Laura" was S3. The first two were authentic, S3 blue nose was made up.aferguson wrote:the S1 Mustang was Lou IV.......the blue nose came out later and was bogus but i think it was S3, i believe there was another one in between. Wow, I thought the Laura Mustang was the S1 since it's such a weird scheme.
I'd love to see an actual pic of a 502nd Tiger in panzer gray with tactical number on the barrel tube. It has to be a tank during mid-late '43, since that battalion didn't get their 2nd and 3rd company till then. But then, the panzer gray color scheme doesn't make sense...

i definitely remember seeing a picture of a tiger with the number on the barrel. Whether it was the same number or just from the same unit i don't remember. I remember being displeased with the number on the barrel til i saw the picture. I'm pretty sure it was a grey tiger too. So i'm wondering the unit marking was incorrect for the barrel marking. Hopefull the pic will turn up.

Oh there's indeed a unit who put their numbers on the tube jacket. It's the 505th.aferguson wrote:i definitely remember seeing a picture of a tiger with the number on the barrel. It couldn't have been a gray Tiger, since they've only started doing this on their Mid/Late-Production Tigers.

Just to clear things up from what was already implied, the S1 Stuka scheme is fake, with the markings from two different Stuka units.
That said, it is still one of my favorite schemes for the Stuka and actually has some degree of weathering. It is not as detailed as some of the more recent 21c aircraft releases, but six years on after its 2002 debut, it still holds up quite well sitting next to the newer planes.
Oh, and the "Lou IV" P-51 scheme was the S1 version, with the blue nose variant coming afterwards as either the S2 or S3 version (I can't remember which). There was also the original BBD P-51 in there as well, but "Lou IV" was first. Its paint scheme is nearly spot-on accurate, as all the famous photos attest to.
The back of the cards for the S1 XD figures show an entirely different P-51, which is actually in the markings of "Petie 2nd" just without the nose art. Letter codes are HO-M. The pictured P-51 has an accurate design when compared to 21c's inaccurate tooling for S1 P-51, and it was probably the paintmaster.

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
You guys already covered what needed to be said. I'm pretty sure that the blue nosed P-51 was S2 and BBD was S3. You know the years have gone by when you start forgetting about these things. Remember when they were news?
The S1 Stuka has the shield of one unit and the codes of another, I believe Stukageschwader 1. I still have mine hanging, so it can't be that bad! Of all of the airplanes, I think the Stukas had the most authentic unit markings, all being 100% accurate except for S1. My favorite has to be the winter Stuka, though. I have been wanting to swap out my Shermans, Stukas, Tigers and Panthers every winter. Silly, I know...
